I found that after upgrading my iPad 2 to iOS 5 and Apple TV to iOS 4.4 AirPlay video no longer continues in the background. When I move away from the iPad 2 app that is steaming to the TV or the iPad 2 locks itself (screen blanks), the Apple TV stops playing the video. This worked fine before the iOS updates.

I have this problem playing from iPhone 5 and iPad 3 on iOs 6 playing to Apple TV 2 which is also up to date
Also had this problem with iPhone 4s on iOS 5. Very frustrating
darn, so now as I type I'm upgrading iPad 3 to ios6 and that's gonna break AirPlay just when I had it all working...at least I didn't trash my MacBook with ML...apples working hard on that though...expect this is just another hiccup
IOS 6 a GREAT disappointment.
I have tried most of what has been suggested on this thread with claims of success BUT nothing has worked for me.
YouTube on iPhone 4 doesn't even show the "AirPlay" icon!
Nothing except iTune works in IOS 6, thanks for NOTHING Apple !
