QuickTime MPEG-2 Component and Lion NO GO

Hello

I newly bought QuickTime MPEG-2 Compnonent as i thought my old MPEG compnonent (version 7.6) is to old as the installer told me that it is not compatible with my Mac OSX server Lion.

On another Mac OS X SL server i have the old one running without issues.

Now I want to give it back as it is not working. But how ?

Under https://store.apple.com/de/order/list there is no give back or other possibility as it was delivered electronically.

On the page http://www.apple.com/de/contact/ I dont see a suitable contact.

Or should i open a ticket as the SW or installation procedure is faulty ?

Any idea would help

Thx

Mac mini, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

The v7.6 component is the most recent and still works correctly under Lion. However, the installer app is not Lion compoatible. Basically you have three options here:

1) You can manually move an istalled component on an older system to a Lion platform,

2) You can use the Squared 5 beta utility to "assist" in the installation of installer package file, or

3) You can use Pacifist to install/extract and manually install the component.

Now I want to give it back as it is not working. But how ?

Apple is not know for giving refunds in such situations,

The included MPEG2 component in Lion is not as capable as the 'full' MPEG2 component. Two examples of this are that the Lion included version does not work with MPEG StreamClip, and it also refuses to open VOB files.

If you follow any of the choices listed by Jon Walker to install the full version then it does work both with MPEG StreamClip and for opening VOB files. If you already have the Snow Leopard version you do not have to re-purchase it.

hi Jon

i guess you may have answered this already, but im new to the apple mac world so maybe asking some silly questions but basically i downloaded mpeg streamslip to convert some files but it tells me i need the MPEG 2 playback component so i paid the money and now it is saying i cant install it as i have an os x lion mac does this mean i wasted time and money from what i have been reading or is there a way round this?.

No, it only means that you did not read the response posted above in this discussion. As previously stated, you have three options:

1) You can install the Apple QT MPEG-2 Playback Component on an earlier Mac OS X platform (or start-up hard drive attached to your Lion system) and then transfer the component to the Lion system,

2) You can download the MPEG Streamclip "beta" package which contains a "helper" utility app which will install the purchased component directly on your Lion system, or

3) You can use a utility like "Pacifist" to manually or automatically extract/install the component.

In my opinion, you have not wasted your money since this component along with the free MPEG Streamclip app, provides multiple demultiplexing and conversion options not supported by Lion's QT X Player and its built-in component.
