Agogee Jam and Alesis iO Dock not working

The problem Im getting with the Apogee Jam is looks like its all working fine with no ear phones plugged in.

As soon as I plug ear phones in it dies and switched to the Mic on the Ipad.

I need to do a reboot of Ipad 2 to get it working again but plug in ear phones same problem...... iFail.....

With Alesis im getting pop and cracks in recordings and when I change Amps it just goes nuts and I get a crazy fuzz sound thats very loude and distorted....

Gotta re start to make work again.

Iv got a booking today with the Apple shop to see if I can sort it out.

Im going to try and go back to iOS 4 on the Ipad (Get a new with it on it I hope)

In my opinion the Alesis IO Dock is junk. I bought one and have now returned it after two weeks of hoping and praying that it would do something. I couldn't get a sound out of it or into it. Tried playing some GarageBand instruments through the headphones, cant hear them. The dock didn't charge my iPad. With a guitar jacked in the GarageBand tuner wouldn't register a note. I believe the unit I purchased was DOA. That makes me really uncomfortable with Alesis because I've been buying electronics for a long time and have never come across a DOA product. For now I'm done with the Alesis IO Dock. If they release a new model in the future I may consider it. FOR PETE'S SAKE, THEY COULD HAVE PUT A EJECT "PUSH OUT" BUTTON ON IT SO YOU COULD GET YOUR IPAD BACK EASILY. @Alesis -two thumbs down.

Google "io dock hiss" - there is a long thread on Alesis support forum - it is not h/w issue. My IO Dock worked perfectly with iOS 4 - after upgrade it became junk. The fact that Alesis and Apple are still selling it is very irresponsible, Apple removes unflattering reviews from their website - I had much better opinion about them until this debacle. $200 iPad charger!

Hello Wattsy69 and all other IPadders,

My understanding is the problem between the IPad2 and the Alessis IO Dock has something to do with the sample rate in the new iOS 5 and not Alessis. Apple changed the sample rate from 44.1 kHz to 48 kHz in iOS 5. What's happening is once you start recording in GarageBand it starts to get worse as time goes on because the IO Dock cannot keep up. I heard Apple has a new Beta iOS 5 and has seemed to fix the problem. I believe we will see the update in the coming weeks. A little more patience is needed and we will all be rocking in no time.

I hope this helps.

Apple fixed hiss and distortion symptoms with iOS 5.1. Alesis also put together a video covering performance tips and gain settings that can resolve the other (more normal) possible causes of hiss that apply to all digital recording setups:

  • Improper input gain settings (too high or too low).
  • Improper output (Main and/or Headphone) volume settings (too high or too low).
  • Hiss or distortion intentionally introduced by the virtual amplifiers inside recording apps (i.e. GarageBand).
  • Audio skips or distortion caused by processor-intensive activity happening in the background on the iPad (resolved by quitting all other apps and turning ON Airplane Mode)

For me, and for many other users on Alesis' forum, the iO Dock working great with the iPad 2 and iOS 5.1. Check out their tips video here:
