falling snow in iMovie

I'm working on a holiday video and want to add some falling snow in front of some stills and a little bit of video. I don't see any effects in iMovie which will do this. From what I understand, I need a movie of falling snow with an alpha transparency. Is this correct? Does anyone have such a thing or know how to create this? I see all sorts of Christmas videos done like this but I have no idea where they get the snow from!?!?! Help!

Thanks for trying but on the developer's webpage at http://imovieplugins.com/

not compatible with iMovie 08, 09, or later

Anyone have any other suggestions? I see stock footage out there but surely, there must be another way that doesn't cost an arm and a leg in licensing fees to add a simple snowfall effect to an iMovie? I'm starting to miss iMovie HD (version 6) and wonder why plug-in support is gone from later versions. iMovie HD was so much easier to work with and so much more flexible.
