(null) users listed in Profile Manager

While configuring Lion Server, I created and reset Open Directory several times as I experimented with different configurations. As you can see from the attached image, it appears that this action has created (null) users in the profile manager user list. These users do not show up in Open Directory when viewed via Workgroup Manager. Does anyone know how to get rid of them? Thanks in advance.

I solved the problem. The (null) users were lurking in the server Access configuration for profile manager. Access configuration for the profile manager service is available in the Server Admin utility under the Services tab.

Thanks for the info, but there is no such group in my Workgroup Manager. My local server only has one user on it (me), and no defined groups.

The Open Directory has only 1 network user and only the default group called "workgroup".

The profile manager application now crashes whenever I use it and I suspect this is caused by accumulated garbage within whatever database it's reading (the "null" users being only the "visible" aspects of whatever stuff is screwed up in there).

Any one have any other suggestions?

I have exactly the same problems you have mentioned. My server also produces Alerts saying that the Server name has changes (even though it hasn't). The alerts go away if I run through the name change function and simply select the existing name, but the alerts come back if I make other changes to Open Directory.

I'm not impressed with the Server aspect of OSX Mountain Lion at this point.

You should open WGM on the server itself. If you are on a remote computer, you have to use screensharing to do so.

You have to look in the LOCAL groups (on top you should select "local" to make it say "Viewing local directory: /Local/Default" on top instead of "/LDAPv3/127.0.1").

Also make sure you make the system groups visible in the View menu of WGM -> "Show System Records".

Then you should find the group "com.apple.access_devicemanagement" as I mentioned before. From that group you can remove the users that have no name which will remove the (null) (null) users from profile manager.

I seem to have been able to fix mine by after running through the change function, turn on all services. Once I did this I then turned off the services I did not want to be running. Since then I have not had this message come up again.

I figure that the 10.8.1 update, which seems to have reset DNS caused this and by activating all the services it updated the server name.

Go figure.
