I don't know if you would really want to do this but you can make VLC play as the wallpaper of your dektop. I would assume you would have to have a subsequent download of vlc for your every monitor you want to do this in.
then you loop it or have a playlist that you loop.
This is a very intense thing especially when the desktop is hardly ever seen. But if you wish, this is the way to do it.
I had no idea you could do that with VLC player but would that not be movies? still good though But you might be right, Have an episode of star wars playing non stop.. am for sure going to try it đ ty
well you could put your own animations in there. a babbling creek? the sound could even work too.
hahah you could have Sunrise Earth play in the background. LOL!!
This is really cracking me up, thanks for posting, glad I could sort of help you. let me know if you have any more questions about this.
also I'm pretty sure you can choose what you loop so you could loop small portions of media, I might be wrong on that.
A movie, or moving pictures is the same principles as animation.
something you could also do is make a folder of different slides to an animation, and then set your background to that folder in system preferences>desktop and screen saver and to change every five seconds. I have a folder with 40 images of a blender exploding when it was turned on with lighters inside. (from the show Time Warp).
I tried simply right clicking a .gif and using it as a wallpaper but that does not work (I remember at college on their xp machines that would work)... I rarely see the wallpapers but it would be nice, and when I get my 27" imac I will probably see it all the time as usually I like things minimised a bit.
hahah Sunrise Earth.. ^^ have that on in vlc player playing all the time, I dont think I would have enough ram and processing speed to do that though but am still going to try play something.
Glad it made you laugh ;p
oh, you wanted an animated gif!
my mind went off on a tangent. đ
as a wallpaper, yes
my way is funner
Were you guys able to do this with the latest (as of Jun 2012) version of VLC for Mac (2.0.1)? I can't find an option anywhere to make an mpg a wallpaper. Tried right-clicking and looking in all the options and menu items I could find. I simply want to make an animated wallpaper from Digital Blasphemy work with VLC for Lion (10.7.4).
Try deskfun, It will let you put an animated gif on your desktop at the level and scale of your choice.
