Iphone 4s Takes Pictures Upside-Down???

My iphone 4s takes pictures upside down even if I hold the phone upright (home screen on the bottom). Is it just a glitch in the phone or can I do something to fix it??

Has anyone else had this issue??

iPhone 4, iOS 5

I'm pretty sure that is just one of trillions of glitches, as my own **** experience With faulty Apple equipment continues... if you try to get hep you'll be left very dissatisfied and frustrated and maybe 1-2 hours on hold at the help desk.

Ohhhh, maybe that's why they have these forums, so those that are denied support have a hope to get help here. I'm thinking you're never going to get anything but a headache. :( Apple doesn't care, why do they call it 'Apple Care?'

Photos come into Lightroom upside down (Windows 7).

This is the only camera that I have ever owned that does this. My old iPhone 3GS did not do this (when I shoot in landscape mode - either orientation).

Work around is easy (just rotate after import) but this is a really basic thing that should have been tested before releasing the camera portion of the new phone.

yeah i have the same problem.. windows 7 here.. i take the photos as you would do to a camera, the volume button is up just like all cameras. But the pictures are all upside down!

Just my 2¢. I don't use the camera very often. That said, I just took a photo (horizontal) with the volumn button up and then emailed it to my email and it was right side up.

Should note I have an IP4 S with preinstalled iOS5.

Same issue here. Windows 7 x64. Photos are upside down in all apps when I snap a photo with the volume button on top. They are upside down even in Quicktime PhotoViewer. So, did Apple not develop that app correctly?

EDIT: Looks like it is true about the software not detecting the rotation metadata correctly. Irfanview displays the photos perfectly fine.

I agree. This is really annoying. When I transfer the pictures, some of them are upright but some of them are upside down. Yet, I take them all the same way, with the volume button facing up. Whenever I try to rotate the ones that are upside down, this box comes up and says that "the photo can't be saved because of a problem with the photo's file properties." and this box doesn't go away even when I close it. It keeps on going until I log off my computer. Apple, please fix this!!!! In the meantime, anyone know of a workround solution?

It's great that the iPhone is using EXIF metadata to define the orientation of the photo, but it seems like no one else is following this standard. Not even Gmail. It seems shortsighted to blame everyone else for having junky software when it's Apple's responsibility to ensure their products work across different platforms.

Bottom line is it's freaking embarrassing to me, and it should be embarrassing to Apple when I post or email a photo upside down. "Sent from my iPhone".

My partner has an iphone 4, and for the past 2 months... every now and again the the phone up-side-downs the pictire (on the screen)... dont know how to put it downl in words.. but you now...

Pointing the iPhone 4 (not 4s) on an abject... the the screen on the iPhone shows the object up-side-down :-/

Any one ever seen that before (using ios 5.0.1).

This should be treated as a iPhone bug.

For one, if it wants to treat the photo as being taken upside down, it should show the photo upside down before you push the button (since it has the auto orientation feature, and defines it as upside down).

or

Why would you ever want to take a photo upside down? The phone has the ability to auto orient, why not auto orient via the EXIF metadata. This is just dum in my opinion.

Whatever the problem could be, I think that it's ridicolous. I took a picture using the + volume button upwards, the picture showed perfectly on the iPhone, and I decided to send it with iPhone Mail client. It arrived as an attachment on Gmail and the iPhone itself was showing the sent email with the picture upside down.

Sorry, Apple, this is a BUG. Whatever you want to call it. It's a BUG. Period. Amen.

I did have this problem as well, but if you´ve photoshop and open the file with it, it will show right side up. that looks like a windows bug, that could be fixed by either apple or microsoft. anyway i dont like having to use photoshop or windows movie maker to rotate my pics and videos. and i cant sabe the rotated pic using windows viewer. i did not like this bug at all......
