iphone spotlight search

I have the same problem and it started on my iPhone 3GS after upgrading to iOS 5.

Also the phone is slow. After I restart the phone, the spotlight search works two times and then stops working.

As you said, you type item to search but nothing happens even after you touch search button on keyboard,.

Any answers you got or found somewhere else? If yes, please post here it will be very helpful

Iphone 3gs with 16 gb. Upgraded to ios5 on Oct 22.

I have Same issue in my Iphone 4 with iOS 5 And After updating on 5.0.1 also this issue is not fix .

My spotlight search is not working at all.

Same problem with my iPhone4 running iOS 5. I found that if you go to Settings and turn of wifi momentarily, or switch to airplane mode momentarily, spotlight works again for awhile. Very annoying glitch though.

My problem with spotlight on iPhone 3gs disappeared automatically after 3 days. I did not do anything. It was very annoying when it was not working. I decided to ignore it and live with it but after the weekend, on Monday it was working as if it never was broken :-)

My spotlight quit working this afternoon for no reason on my iPhone 4s with ios 5.01 . I upgraded approximately a week ago and I have no idea why it is doing this. I know that you can't down grade but it's a shame that you can't because of these new bugs. The only thing that fixes is if I restart the device and it only works once and then it breaks. This ***** because I use spotlight a lot! Please fix Apple!

In another thread I found out that if you go to settings and then to spotlight search and turn off spotlight search of emails and then restart it will fix the glitch until apple fixes the problem. You lose spotlight search of emails but it works ok other than that.

I hadn't thought of that...I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

I have the 4 and downloaded the latest software. It was working until a couple of days ago. I started deleting apps and it is working now. I think the problem was the vilingo app.

Turning off email search in spotlight preferences does nothing for me.

I am having the same issue. I have tried turning off email search and will see what happens. My son-in-law who also got an IPhone 4s about the same time is having the same problem. If you uncheck all the search indexes it will start to work again but then fails again shortly after that. I believe it is a software glitch.

I have the same problem after I have iphone 4 after upgrading to IOS 5, it started to happen, then moving to ios 5.01 didnt do the trick as well.

Got the iPhone 4S and Spotlight search didn't work properly right from the start. After the upgrade to iOS 5.0.1 it is still the same. Sometimes it works, most of the time it doesn't work at all. I have now switched off spotlight search for mail and it seems to work now.

But for me the search through my mails is the most important and useful one. So with that turned off spotlight's kind of useless for me...

But if that many people do have this problem Apple is going to fix that. They have to! 😉

I'm a spotlight search addict. I use it all the time for Email, Contacts and Events. (I disabled music in settings)

Under iOS 4, I was a ninja. Everything I needed, I could find. Now after iOS5 (and the 5.0.1 update) the spotlight often freezes, and waits 30-60 seconds to return results.

My iphone never annoyed me before. This is a true disappointment. For the first time, I'm annoyed by my phone. Update does not equal upgrade! Dammit!

Apple needs to figure this out quickly! My phone once worked perfectly. Now it's holding me up, and slowing me down.

I am having the exact same problem. My iPhone 4S is only about 4 weeks old. The spotlight search worked fine til about a week ago, and then I found I would type something and nothing happened, unless I rebooted the whole thing, and then it would work for one or two times and then stop. I see some people advised the disconnect the email to the search, how do you do that? I really would not want to do that on a full time basis, because sometimes I liked searching for an email in this option? Not real happy that this is going on.

Also I find that I can not open my draft emails that have been saved. It just says loading and then nothing happens. Anyone else find this happening? My emails in the inbox and outbox open just fine, but not the ones in the draft files. Thanks for your help.
