What is error code -49

When I try to export my movie in iMovie 11 (9.0.4) I get the message that the operation cannot be performed "error code -49" . Can any one tell me what this is and how do I get round it?

The Same issue, installed Lion to a clean Hard Drive, not upgrade, the system is fully updated, its a macbookpro 13 inch mid 2009 with imovie 2011.


I have imported the video directly from my iphone 4

edited as normally, no fancy effects

exported to 720p and i get the -49 error.


firt time exported to movies folder

second time to desktop

same result, error -49

i've also checked file permissions to write&read for everyone


Hope it get solved soon, any one with this config?

It seems like there's a number of these being posted all around the iMovie Discussion Group. So the solution posted most recently that seems to work for the largest number of people is this:


This requires using the Terminal app, in your Applications/Utilities folder


To turn off Time Machine snapshots type in the following command:


sudo tmutil disablelocal


The Mac will likely ask for your password, so type it in and hit the return key. The type the word, exit and hit return. Quit Terminal.

you seem like you know what's up.


can you please help me with a problem... i am exporting a video made in Imovie and I have never had an issue ... that is until tonight


The error message reads as follows:


The project could not be prepared for publishing because an error occurred. (-50)



Could you please give me some advice? Or anyone ?
