Screensaver freezes on startup

Hey all.

Well i have a new MacBook Pro, witch works fine, apart from one thing.

Sometimes when my MBP has gone to sleepmode from screensaver, then when i want to use it again, then it seems to "freeze" on the login screen, where i need to input my password.

I can move the mouse and kind of wipe the screensaver away so i can see the login icons. (see pics)

So my question is this:

Why does it do this...?

What can i do to fix it..?

were you able to recreate the bug when you force your screensaver on or was it only when you let it automatically go to the screensaver after a certain time? If the PRAM doesn't work, you might need to let spotlight reindex your hard drive.

Although initiating the process doesn't take long, depending on how much stuff you have on your hard drive, it may take a while to complete. During this time your computer might act slower then normal.

if the PRAM doesn't solve your issue, go to system preferences>spotlight>privacy and then add your itunes folder. and then immediately take it off of the privacy list. This will make spotlight reindex the folder.

This just happened to me again for the first time in a while. I do think it is related to the power/energy saver settings, because this is the first time since the last time this happened that my laptop wasn't plugged in when it went to sleep. So I reduced the time to screensaver and sleep to a minimum to test it. I didn't have a problem starting up from screensaver or sleep when plugged in, but did with it on battery. I could still start up from screensaver, but when I left it longer and started it up from sleep, the screensaver came on when I clicked a key, but not the login icons. I had to do the eraser thing with the pointer to uncover that; then it started up fine.

I had the energy saver preferences set to shut down the hard drive when possible - I don't know how long it takes before it does that. I had it set for the computer to go to sleep after 3 minutes and I was away for about 45 minutes.

I'll try the PRAM reset per SmokeMonster's instructions and let you know.

Well now i have tryede the pram reset, but that dident help.:0(

It seems that the whole screensaver part is buggy, because when i just want to se an ex. of a screensaver setting i might want to use, then it freezes my mac and the only way to get access again is to do a restart or if im lucky, then i can cancel the screensaver via Mission control.

So i have completly given up hope of getting the screensacer to work....sad apple.....:0(

Try deleting this file:

~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.screensaver.plist

and then re-starting your mac.

Don’t worry, deleting the file is harmless. It will just recreate itself to default settings when the computer reboots. It may be that the current file is corrupt.

Note: to get to this file in Lion, you have to chose ‘Go’ menu from the Finder menubar at the top of the screen, while keeping the ‘option’ key held down. When you do this, you will see ‘Library’ in the Go menu bar. Click on it and navigate to Preferences and look for the file com.apple.screensaver.plist and trash it.
