Screensaver freezes on startup

Hey all.

Well i have a new MacBook Pro, witch works fine, apart from one thing.

Sometimes when my MBP has gone to sleepmode from screensaver, then when i want to use it again, then it seems to "freeze" on the login screen, where i need to input my password.

I can move the mouse and kind of wipe the screensaver away so i can see the login icons. (see pics)

So my question is this:

Why does it do this...?

What can i do to fix it..?

did you go to safari, preferences, extensions and made sure they're all up to date?

It's always a good idea to have backups. Look into Carbon Copy Cloner. It's good for what you're about to do which is do a clean install.

But before that, have you tried doing a reinstall?

reinstall

also check in system preferences, users & groups, login items and make sure you are taking into account each app that says it's loading upon login.

🙂

First of all.....i just wanted to say, that i really appreciate that you have the patience to stick with me, helping me with this problem, eventhough it issint a life threadening problem. 🙂 THANKS 🙂

But when that is said, then i just wanted to show you something new about this problem.....because now it also seems that it is affecting Safari and the Dashboard, witch i have taken some pics of.....it maby just me that havent been aware enough to catch this when it has happened before / if it has..... 😉

But here are the pics.:

Well....now i have just been into the Safari preference/extensions and i only have one extension installede...its called "Awesome screenshot". I will try to remove this, since it was one of the first things that i installede on my Mac....and since the problem have been (almost) as long as i can remember, so i think there is a good chance that it might be this little app that is causing the problem.

So when i have tryed this i will give a little update your way. 🙂

Regarding the reinstall, then i havent tried to do a reinstall, because i dont have any ex-harddrive that have enough free space to make a backup of all my date at the moment, so when i have gotten me a new backup unit, then thats one of the things that i am thiniking of doing, unless i can solve the problem in some other way. 🙂

To the thing about Users&Groups, then i dont have any app loading when i login, not with my admin account and the guest account. So thats proberly not the probelm.

Lastly i just wanted to say that i will take a look at that Carbon Copy Cloner App, that you talk about, but firstly i have to get a new harddrive, so i have a place to put my backup files.

I thought I suggested for you to check all your applications and plugins 👿

glad you found which app it was

if it takes screen shots of your computer, there are a couple different things built into Lion that do this.

there are the built in shortcuts

hit shift+cmd+3 this takes screenshots of the whole screen of all the monitors conncted

shift+cmd+4 will bring up cross hairs to click and drag. click and drag to create a box that will take a screenshot of whatever is inside it after you letgo of the mouse click.

shift+cmd+4 and then hit spacebar. this will make your cursor a camera so you can take pictures of individual windows without capturing the background.

holding option with any of these keyboard shortcuts (adding option in) will save these pictures to your paste clipboard, the way I've written out will save the screenshots to your desktop.

Quicktime takes screen recordings and is good for when you can take a picture of something while it's happening.

Just go to quicktime player and go File>new screerecording

Lastly there is an app called Grab that is in your utilities folder that will do all of the above for you in one app. ( this might be an xcode thing, I forget).

Hey Smokemonster. 🙂

Yes you did suggest, that i should tjek my applications and plugins, but in not so quick, plus it was hard to locate witch one was causing the problem since i had to make my Mac go to sleep each time. 😉

But it seems that i was a bit early, because now it has returned. 😢

I will try to do at PRAM reset, to see if this will fix it, since i have removed the screencaption pluging, witch i think was causing the most of the problems. Or it helped to remove it for about a month....so it must have done something. 🙂

I looked into taking screenshots with the standart ways that Apple prowide and this is good enough for me. So this is something i will do in the future. 🙂

But i will give you an update on the PRAM later.
