Calendar colors keep changing

I haven't seen a question about this posted since iOS 5 came out (and most seem to come from the last decade).

I'm running iOS 5 on my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2. I use both iCloud calendars and I subscribe to a number of Google calendars, as well. This problem only manifests itself with the subscribed calendars. I'm glad that you can finally customize the color of a subscribed calendar, but your choices don't stick. I want my work calendar to be red, my travel calendar to be blue, my personal calendar to be green, and a fourth orange. I have set these by clicking on the Calendars tab at the top to show the list of calendars, then tapping Edit, and then setting the colors.

I don't know when it does this, but it will always change the colors to something else. And it's not consistent between the iPhone and iPad. So, for example, the work calendar, which I had set as red, is now purple on my iPad. It's green on my iPhone. I realize the color might not sync between devices, but if I set it as red on both, why is it changing them to something else?

Only thing I can tell is perhaps it happened when the iPad's screen shut off, or maybe when it synced.

Is this a known issue? Is there a workaround?

I have five subscribed calendars on my iPad, and four of them are on my iPhone as well. And since updating to iOS 5, I have been having the same issue. This does not happen with any of my iCloud calendars, just the subscribed ones. Unfortunately, I don't have a fix either. I was here looking for one myself. But I thought I'd chime in just to say I'm dealing with the same thing.

I HAVE SOLVED SAID ISSUE

[my calendar colours on my iOS devices would rarely be the same colours I had set for them on my Mac]

SO

I went to icloud settings on both my iPhone and iPad, disconnected the calendars (deleted them off devices in process), gave it a few minutes and then switched them back on.

The newly established calendars from my iCloud account would be there, all consistent and lovely.

Steps to change the calendar colors on the Iphone 5, iOS 7.0.6:

1. Open your calendar

2. At bottom click on the word "Calendars" in the middle

3. Click Edit in upper left corner

4. If you click on a calendar that shows a right arrow as in ">", you will see the list of color background choices for calendar entries. (unfortunately only 1 of two calendars showed that right arrow)

Remaining issue for Apple seems to be offering the same choice for more than one calendar. Although I had both Google and Yahoo calendars turned on, I only was given the choice of changing the color for the Yahoo calendar entries. I would guess that the remaining calendar colors are chosen by default. This still needs a fix and that is probably why there are numerous replies about essentially tricking the system into assigning colors to certain calendars. Some colors are hard to read (even just look at) compared to others.

Hi, David, I got an alert that you had posted to this thread. I think the issue I was having was different. I had initially posted last fall, when the "Barbie Dreamhouse" bug had gotten into Calendars (changing our calendars to purple, pink and turquoise no matter what we did) but that was fixed, a few weeks after the bug started.

Sounds like the current issue is more with interacting with Google and Yahoo calendars.
