Jul 10, 2012 11:34 AM in response to Cbenton1by Daniel Ebeck,Once you've achieved the initial synchronisation, any future events will get posted directly to iCloud. After syncing, calenders will be listed as in iCloud, rather than on my Mac. Your Mac will sync these automatically as will any iOS device. Should you not have a net connection, iCal will display a cached version and then upload and download changes when it next has a connection.

Jul 28, 2012 12:39 AM in response to Daniel Ebeckby devoted06,Thanks Daniel. The merge worked like a charm.
Just one note for others: iCal didn't disappear from my iCloud account screen once I turned it off but I followed Dan's instructions and now the 'on my Mac' list and 'iCloud' list have been merged into one. -

Jan 9, 2013 8:44 PM in response to Daniel Ebeckby emotil,This fixed my issue perfectly.
My issue: I wanted the iCal events imported from Outlook that were "On My Mac" to sync to my iCloud so that they could be dispersed to my iPhone.
Thanks Ebeck

Feb 20, 2013 12:18 PM in response to Daniel Ebeckby hogbear,I have to say, I'm AMAZED this worked. I had very low hopes that it would do as described, but it worked perfectly. Thank you! Just wanted to mention this so if anyone else has this issue, it's another person saying it does work so try it!

Feb 20, 2013 5:43 PM in response to hogbearby stevenfrommount laurel,Perhaps someone can help me with this situation:
Running Outlook 2011 on Mountain Lion. I want to use Outlook calendar but have it sync with Mac Calendar (with iCloud) so that I can get it onto my iPhone. I am NOT using an Exchange server, I am using Outlook for default email with an IMAP mail server (with no calendar service).
I have 2 problems:
1. I originally got the Outlook local calendar (On My Mac) to sync with Mac Calendar. But it put events into On My Mac in Calendar. So if I want to get those onto iCloud, I have to manually move them to iCloud Calendar.
2. In trying to make this work, I deleted the Outlook Local (On My Mac ) calendar, and then re-created it and now Outlook won't even sync Outlook Local with the the local Mac Calendar.
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

Feb 20, 2013 5:59 PM in response to stevenfrommount laurelby Csound1,You can't use Outlook 2011 with iCloud contacts and calendars, they are not compatible.
I have no idea what you did with the On My Mac calendar (can you see it in iCal or Calendar on your Mac)

Feb 21, 2013 6:41 AM in response to Csound1by stevenfrommount laurel,I exported Calendar from old Mac (Outlook 2011) and then imported it into Outlook 2011 on Mtn Lion Mac. I enabled sync in the Outlook options. It created a local calendar in Outlook(labeled On my Mac). When I opened Mac Calendar for first time, all events in that calendar appeared in Mac Calendar under On My Mac calendar, which is distinct from iCloud calendar. The events can be transferred to iCloud but its an extra step.

Feb 21, 2013 7:41 AM in response to stevenfrommount laurelby Csound1,Isn't that what I said previously
You can't use Outlook 2011 with iCloud contacts and calendars, they are not compatible.
What exactly is your question?

Jun 8, 2013 10:49 PM in response to Daniel Ebeckby Scooplorimer,Hi,
I've tried this but I am obviously missing something as I don't get a "merge" option. Where is this?
Thanks

Jun 8, 2013 11:25 PM in response to Scooplorimerby Daniel Ebeck,When you turn on synchronisation in System Prefs, a dialogue box pops up asking if you want to merge or overwrite the calendars. Choose Merge.

Jun 9, 2013 3:14 AM in response to Daniel Ebeckby Scooplorimer,Ok, I must be really thick here, where is synchronisation in System preferences?
I go in to System prefs > iCloud > which then shows everything from "email" to "find my mac" ticked.
I untick "Calendars and reminders" (i get a warning that this will delete from my Mac) > ok.
I then log in to icloud which shows me a calendar icon with an empty calendar.
I go back to Systen preferences> iCloud> retick the box I unticked. I get a timer saying "setting up".
But after all this everything is still the same. My iCal works fine, synchs with my iPhone fine, but the calendar in icloud is still blank. Interestingly if I enter an appointment in the empty Icloud calendar, it immediately appears in my Ical on the Mac and on the Iphone. But still can't get all my current data in Ical/iphone i.e. appointments , birthdays into Icloud.
Just don't see a merge / synch option??
Help please?
