iMessage "delivered" but not received

Hello all,


Me and my fiance both have iphones 4. both runing IOS 5. with different Apple ID's

both have Imessage on and with the viewing read option on (the one that shows, when u read the message).


here's my issue; when i send her a Imessage on my iPhone it says "delivered" however she never gets them, so i always find my self having to click the message again and having to send it as a regular text which is becoming really annoying since me and her text ALOT!!. but the issue is only happening with her, with all my other friends using iphone4, 4s, 3gs, and ipod touchs running IOS 5 it works fine.


Any ideas on what i should do. thanks to all.

I've had this problem since starting to use iMessage. I would say about 1 in 10 imessages to my friend never gets delivered even though iMessage says it has been. I have, for other reasons, restored my iPhone a couple of times in the last couple of months and it hasn't helped that problem. It wouldn't be so bad if the app actually reported "not delivered" - at least I'd know! This is a serious bug!

Turning iMessage off and back on again in Settings worked for me. Before I tried this the only settings visible were: iMessage (which was ON), MMS Messaging, Show Subject Field, and Character Count.


The others (Send Read Receipts, Send As SMS, and Receive At) showed up after turning iMessage off and then on again. After that I was able to actually receive iMessages sent to me.

having same annoying problem, latest one recieved after 12 hours, tried too many options didn't work, guess this got worse after new 5.1 update. it is very annoying. have to switch to sms rather then this unrelaible imess.

but what we gonna do this not iphone ios devices. Apple must to solve this issue. deffinetly it is imess problem, cos most of the time I use very good wifi connection and people which sends me imess they use very good internet connections. also I don't think our carrier got a problem.

Yup, another voice to the masses having issues with iMessage.


Generally, I get two copies of everything - one iMessage and one SMS, completely negating the requirement to use iMessage in the first place but more recently, and more worryingly I've been sent messages from my wifethat haven't arrived on my 4S. Given that she's looking after our newborn daughter, it's pretty important to us that our messaging can be relied upon and we're not getting that with Apple right now.

Ok I had the issues for 4 weeks roughly now, even did a reset of all settings and apps and switched off imessage for 5 days (was on holiday in another country) + disabled imessage on my mac.


I then "tried" again when I got back from holiday:


I dont message much and mostly to my fiance and lord and behold things looked like they worked with me sending messages and them being "delivered" but after getting some random "weird" messages from my fiance it turns out that I did not get some of her messages again (I was at home with wifi on) and I eventually got them a day later completely out of sync after many other messages where exchanged.


I have given up now and iMessage has been off for 2 days... everything works (and text messages are free for us in the UK)


If apple makes some sort of announcement that they fixed iMessage on their back-end or iOS I will switch it back on again.

Thank you. The failed deliveries tagged as "Delivered" in my case have always been sent by my carrier's 3G network (I am rarely on wifi with my iPhone). If I understand that article you linked to correctly, perhaps the recipients I have had problems with getting messages to are using a wifi at teh time my message was sent, tagged as delivered but never arrived, I don't know.

Same basic problem, but it shows itself in two different ways.


My daughter has been sending me iMessages that show as "delivered" but quite a few never arrive -- some do, some don't. There is no obvious pattern as to which will get through and which won't. We are both using 4S handsets with iOS 5.1, the latest update.


When it comes to contacting my son, it is even more odd. He has a pay as you go iPhone 3G (again iOS 5.1) so he can receive iMessages when he is in wifi range, but it has to switch to SMS when he is out and about. He sent me a message that came through as an SMS (the green ones), and if I reply to that, it always goes as an SMS without the option of iMessage. Later I got an iMessage from him (a blue one) and if I reply to that, it will always go as an iMessage without the option of sending it as an SMS. The same phone appears twice in my messages list, once for all the iMessages, once for all the SMS messages.


I've done all the obvious things, reset the phone, switched iMessaging on and off etc, and it hasn't helped. Any ideas greatly appreciated.

The link posted by Jimbok517 doesn't relate to the problem being discussed here, which is that iMessages can be shown as delivered on the sender's phone when they have not actually been received by the recipient.


I see that some people have successfully fixed the problem by disabling and re-enabling iMessage, but how can I be sure that someone I'm sending to has done this? I can't, of course, so I've turned it off and will probably never, ever turn it on again.


I know that one in several thousand SMS messages probably goes astray too, but iMessage ought to be an improvement on this not a step backwards. I'm really, really disappointed in Apple on this one.

I had the same experience, my friend and I kept messaging each other then my dad changed his password (because it Was on my dads apple account) then I changed to mine then we couldn't message each other anymore....

I really was sad it was so tragic.... I added her and then I messaged her and she said at school she didn't get it...

I'm not so sure if iMessage is so reliable....

I've had the same issue. A very serious issue in my opinion! I came across an article here

Suggesting that the beta "iMessage for Mac" is causing problems. I had installed that software on my mac. Found it to be pretty useless and forgot it was there. The article describes how to properly uninstall which I have done. Now I will re-enable iMessage on my IOS devices and see if the problem is solved. Certainly hope so!

We don't have a Mac, so that's not the cause of the issue for us.

I've disabled iMessage on our iPads, so only our iPhones use messaging services and it has been very reliable. I believe users should only have messaging enabled on a single device (or Application) or issues seem to arise at the moment. If you have multiple messaging devices on a single account and a message has been marked as delivered on the first of your devices to download the new message, it may be possible that your other devices dont bother to download-a sync issue.
