iPhone 4s drops calls

My new 4S, 5 days old, has dropped calls the last 3 days whereas my 3GS never did?

Just got the 4s two days ago, with a case. Had been missing some calls, and only getting 1 to 2 bars. I had been using it mainly with wifi for data and not the cell. Today my phone just sucked, Batt was dead before the end of the day, it was warm and dropping calls. Speed test did not work with the cell, only on wifi. Tonight I removed it from the case and it cooled down, and I now have have 4 bars. **** its fast also. Put back on the case, and it starts all over. No bars, dropped calls, cann't send an e-mail with out wifi. Can the cases be whats dropping the calls. Heading to Apple in the morning to have them check it out. It just nuts I know, I have done many test. The case it being returned!!!

I'd like to know why someone from Apple doesn't read this forum and answer our questions! Why do we all have to go into the store just to have them reset the network settings - or worse, have to get a whole new phone and go thru the hassle of setting it up all over again?!

I was just on hold with Apple support for 40 minutes! The call just failed. (I disabled the cellular data before I called.)

APPLE, PLEASE READ THIS FORUM AND ANSWER OUR QUESTIONS! ALSO, DON'T MAKE US SEND FEEDBACK BEFORE YOU MAKE FIXES! THIS IS YOUR FEEDBACK!!!

Glad I'm not the only one experiencing this. My wife and I have had 4s phones for a couple of months. When we switched we immediately noticed the degradation of our service. AT&T reestablished the phone on the network and changed the sim card. When that did not solve the problem they told us to go back to Apple to exchange the phone. Hopefully that will work.

After getting my iPhone 4s reset to factory setting. Over all I think it is working better. I say that and then I have a day where I get dropped calls. I think the first few days after the reset it was not working so well but in the last few days I have had great call quality. I take this one day at a time. I never know if this means AT&T fixed the problems for good. But I was talking to my brother any for the first time ever he started talking right away. Every time before when he would call he would keep saying John are you there, can you hear me. I talked to him for about 10 mInutes and the call was very clear on both ends. I also was sitting at home in the exact place on my couch where I reported here I was getting dropped call all the time. Let's hope that this is a real fix to at least my problem and others. It is soundiing like for a lot of people a full reset of their phone is solving or at least helping with the problem.

Same problem in Spain with Movistar. Had the 3GS for two years without problems. I upgraded to the 4S. I drop calls constantly. Screen will show "call failed" with full connection. When I try to call the person back, the phone starts "searching" for network. After about 10 seconds it gives me network again and then I can call back. That's the case 9 out of 10 times. Very rarely am I able to call the person back without the network disconnecting/reconnecting. I have tried the solution posted by Wraymund and I'll report back.

Same problem here...I suspect it's the phone, not the carrier. I previously had an iPhone 3G and very rarely dropped a call when using it at home. Since upgrading (??) to the iPhone 4S, I drop calls when using it at home, even though the signal appears to be strong (4 out of 5 bars).

And it's the same scenario as above..."Call Failed", shows "Searching" for network. It'll eventually reconnect after 10-15 seconds. I'm assuming it's probably the same for all of us. I also just tried resetting my Network Settings, fingers crossed it works.

Very annoying, and very disappointed with Apple not responding to all of our complaints. Obviously there is something wrong with the phone.

To original poster (and everyone else who is still having this problem):

Have you tried any of the suggestions in this thread? If so, and if they worked, please mark them as "Correct".

I called Apple and they said to go to the store and talk to a "genius". I did, and the "genius" said to back up my iPhone and then do a DFU (Device Firmware Update) on my phone. This worked and is the only thing that works. A few people on this thread said that they did this and it worked. Please try this yourself and, if it works, mark these as Correct.

The genius told me all the steps to do and to "google" DFU update or reset if I forgot a step. Here's a link to a video on how to enter DFU Mode: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34v8HMC9B98

Once you get into the mode, right-click on your device in iTunes and do a restore from the backup you did right before this. After it's done restoring, DON'T LET IT SYNC (cancel the sync). Then do the restore again. If you don't do these last 2 steps, YOU WILL LOSE ALL YOUR FOLDERS.

I hope this works for all of you. I'm sure it will!
