PPPPPlease!!!!
That's a hardware problem.
Shut the machine off, remove and reseat the video card. More than likely the video card has developed an issue, and needs to be replaced.
It seems like the video card to 1st generation macs are quite hard to replace. Is it definitely a hardware problem?
or
The video circuitry in almost all Mac Laptops is soldered to the motherboard. It is not replaceable.
Sure looks like a heardware problem to me... I used to repair Macs back in the day.
Fortunately the OP has a Mac Pro. I do realize a very good portion of the posters in this forum has a Macbook Pro. Why they keep posting in the Mac Pro forum is beyond me though....
It is in deed a desktop computer i own!!!!
Will this be a sufficient reeplacement card?
Or do i need a mac certified?
Thanks for replies, by the way.
That card is no good for you. Yes, you need a card that was firmware designed for the Mac. Either keep looking, or Apple has a card that will work in the 2006 Mac Pro. The 5770 card is the cheapest Apple has that will work in the '06 Pro, but if you go ebay, make sure the card came from a Mac Pro to begin with.
You can get a PC card that has been firmware modified for the Mac, but it's really a crapshoot when you do that. Plenty of horror stories on that.
I have a HD4870 in mine, but now discontinued by Apple.
That's the original card (as long as the seller is honest about it, and not selling a flashed card...) . Weigh your options against a new 5770 card from Apple, depending on cost. Think of if you may buy a bigger monitor, or two, or if you just want faster performance out of your Mac now or down the road.
I've the same machine and
I had the same problem on my video board.
If you have the same board of the picture below, you can see a couple of blue capacitors near the bottom of the board.
These two capacitors may be defective and must be replaced, but
note that it is a task that must be done by a technician because it is not easy desoldering.
Apple asked me 500 euros for the new card and the two capacitors cost 1 euro.
Cheers
