Screen troubles on my mac pro

I have a 1 gen. Mac pro Dual 4 core.


Suddently yesterday the computer froze with a strange screen. Now when i turn it on again i keep getting this screen:

The machine starts booting, and my mouse cursor is visible and movable, but it gets stuck on a blue screen with these pixel things.


Please help!!!

Mac Pro 8core, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

That card is no good for you. Yes, you need a card that was firmware designed for the Mac. Either keep looking, or Apple has a card that will work in the 2006 Mac Pro. The 5770 card is the cheapest Apple has that will work in the '06 Pro, but if you go ebay, make sure the card came from a Mac Pro to begin with.


You can get a PC card that has been firmware modified for the Mac, but it's really a crapshoot when you do that. Plenty of horror stories on that.


I have a HD4870 in mine, but now discontinued by Apple.

I've the same machine and

I had the same problem on my video board.

If you have the same board of the picture below, you can see a couple of blue capacitors near the bottom of the board.

These two capacitors may be defective and must be replaced, but

note that it is a task that must be done by a technician because it is not easy desoldering.

Apple asked me 500 euros for the new card and the two capacitors cost 1 euro.
