I agree with you but for the 4s it could stand for "Steve". Because he unfortunately passed away during the fabrications of the 4s. But it would really just be a play on words if it was 4 Steve. Even if it was tribute to Steve Jobs. But on another hand it could just be for second because it was the second in the line up. Just like the 3GS, 4S, 5S, 6S, and by next year the 7S. But after all this we will still be asking the same question, "What does the S in 4S stand for"
Speed
Siri
so does that mean the 3GS meant Siri... that's the probmlem i'm having with people saying its siri..
Serious Battery Problem
or
SIRIus Battery Problem.
so does that mean the 3GS meant Siri...
As you already know, Apple SAID "S" stood for SPEED in the 3GSl. Why you do you think that applies to the 4S? Apple didn't say what the meant by "S" in the 4S, but on the 1st promo page states "Introducing Siri." Draw your own conclusion.

The only "problem" is that this poses a problem for you at all....
Apple never officially stated what the S stands for. The best we have is that in the iPhone 3GS the S stood for speed because of the slightly faster 3G technology from the iPhone 3G. In the iPhone 4S, on GSM networks there is a large speed increase. So here the S standing for speed would make sense too. Because apple didn't officially say what it stands for, it is safe to say that this implies that the S stands for speed like it did in the 3GS. If they changed the meaning I think they would have specifically mentioned it.
I will agree with that lol

Read my post above. The iPhone 4S IS faster on GSM networks (it was a highlight in the keynote) so the S would apply. Just because Siri is the biggest new feature, it doesn't mean that this is automatically what the S stands for. Like I said before, I think that if apple wanted to change the meaning from the way it was used before, it would have mentioned it.

No, since Apple didn't say, it doesn't mean anything other than what you like it to mean. There is no "tradition", or "official" meaning. If Apple wanted to convey a specific message, they would have been explicit about it.
The real mystery here is why you are so concerned about it. If you really have a "problem with people saying it's Siri", then the real solution is therapy.
Well to me, it just makes sense that if they named two phones very similarly the extra S would stand for the same thing. It just makes sense.
And can't someone just want to know out of curiosity? I think you are reading into these posts too seriously. When someone says "problem with people saying it's siri" it doesn't necessarily mean that they are stressing out over it or are in emotional distress. It just means that they aren't 100% sure that is correct and are still curious to find out the right answer.
On the 3gs it meant speed.
on the 4s it means siri.

Well, the point is that there IS NO RIGHT ANSWER, or Apple would have been specific. No one can possibly know what Apple is thinking except Apple. If this were something that had a defined answer, they would have told us....
And, after asking and getting answers, if you say you have a "problem" with not knowing "100% sure" such a trivial and inconsequential thing as this, I take their word for it - they do have a problem!
Gee, I thought it was for Steve! đ

Yes, that is correct. There is no right answer 100%. I don't really know how to explain it. But you have to see where I am coming from. I guess you can think about it like this. S is a word. The word was defined as speed 2 years ago. Now it is being used again. Since S was already defined it does not need to be defined again. It just makes sense that apple would be consistent in their product names.
But that isn't what they said. They said "that's the probmlem i'm having with people saying its siri.." In other words, that's why I am not so sure siri is the correct answer. They are just curious, that's all. If someone said, "The iPhone is to die for" would you think they would actually die for an iPhone? Like I said, just relax. You don't need to go attack people by saying that they need mental help when they are just curious about something.
However, you are entitled to your opinion. I have presented my case and you seem to be getting pretty upset over my comments so I think this whole thing should be let go. There are plenty of posts here for the OP to make a decision for themselves and if he/she needs more clarification he/she will ask.
