what does the "s" stand for in iPhone4s

There have been so many blogs an discussions about the "Meaning of S", most of them intelligently quizzical and light hearted, that it's hard to understand that someone actually takes this seriously.... Answer this question: Why does it matter at all what the S stands for?

The issue I have, which you don't seem to get, is that the OP posed a question which in his mind was rhetorical (as he had the answer in mind), then only to respond that he had a Problem with People Saying it meant something different than it did with the 3GS. Why ask if you don't want to hear anything other than your expectation, and then announce you have a "problem" with them saying what they said? That opened him up.

You are right it doesn't matter. But he/she was just asking out of curiosity with the hopes of hearing different answers.

If you think the question is stupid or unimportant why even answer?

it could also stand for speed because of the new A5 chip in it makes everything faster too (not internet related)

but it could also stand for "second" as in the second generation iphone 4

Short answer:

S in 3GS stood for “Speed”

S in 4S stood for “Siri”

S in 5S stood for “Security”

I'd always thought it stood for "Steve". Meaning 4 Steve, or for Steve (as in Jobs). Although I don't think Apple ever outlined a true meaning.

But wouldn't 3 Steve sound silly? Or 5 Steve? I was told on good authority that it stands for Sausage. The person was a highly reliable source with apparent inside knowledge. Samsung agree and said it was due to the lack of 'meat' inside the device.

Case closed. 🙂

IM soooo late but obviously the 'S' stands for 'Second'

so the "S" in Iphone 4S means Siri so yeah thats finial they said it in a QandA press thing
