hello lovelhelmet

i almost have the same problem as you discribed, but my iphone 4 after i have upgraded in IOS 5.0, my iphone keep searching for network carrier all the sudden, after trying this solution from Angus Cooney as follow

1. Go to "Settings" Next "General" Next "Reset" and last "Reset Network Settings"

2. It will tell you" This will delete all network settings " tap the red "Reset Network Settings"

your phone will reboot..

3 . Now this is the trick..

Go back to settings and turn "Airplane mode" on then back off! and it should connect after that.

Good luck and let me know.

Hi musica_ms

Thanx for tip, but I've done this multiple times and it only worx for a couple of minutes.

Step 3 in your tip forces sim to get network connection agaiin and this is good. But then it crashes again, and again, and again..

I think this is caused by baseband crash that happens continously..

So again, flood apple support on this matter, only solution to this bug.

i live in Puerto Rico and I'm having the same issue. Came to AT&T the first time (7 days after I bought it) and they said it was the sim card so they changed it. On the 20th day, the problem came back and at the AT&T store gave me a new device. Today is the 32th day and the problem is BACK!!!! Don/t know what else to do!!!!! Please fix this ASAP cause I pay to have a phone, and mine is not working!!!!

Hi mromero25... I've tried with every single posible trouble shooting and at the end I've got the same, the phone does not work. I believe turning off the cellular data is not the solution. I bought an iphone and I expect to use it as a phone, if we resolve the problem with that, we only have a more expensive ipod touch with a flash camera (LOL). I'm really unhappy with all this...

I've gone to great length and put lots of hours into this matter trying to figure out what's causing this problem. And as you can see in my earlier posts I've tried everything and have had extensive contact with my operator (Tele2) in this matter.

I finally caved in and returned my iPhone 4S to Tele2 and they sent it to Apple which in return sent me a new phone a week later with iOS 5.0 installed. And TADAAHH!, Everything worx like a charm.

Note, I have the same exakt microSIM, a new phone with supposedly same hardware but iOS 5.0 instead of 5.01 and making and receiving calls and messages now works like a charm.

This is my tip, return phone and get a new one with iOS 5.0 on. This saves you a lot of time and headache.

Conclusion It's not the choice of operator and not the microSIM that's causing this problems. It's either the hardware in the first iPhone 4S that was sent out to customers (like mine), the software, or a combination there of.
