a friend of mine update the iOS form 4 to 5 over the weekend and now has no volume control on the phone, the headphones work, but the speaker on the phone quit. I witnessed it work prior to the upgrade, any thoughts on how to get it back.

Hey there,

I was having an intermittent sound issue and discovered it was related to Bluetooth. Whenever my phone was pairing with a Bluetooth device (handset or car) most of the sound was also being transferred to that device and I didn't realize it. Turning off Bluetooth instantly fixed the issue. Or you can increase the volume (select aux/USB source) and you'll hear the missing sounds!

Good Luck

Thank you. My iPhone 4S was "docked" for 2 months, sounds disabled. I've tried cleaning its connector without any success, was thinking that I should go for replacement. But today I've tried to clean connector with wet tootbrush. After several seconds of cleaning seemingly clean pins, the sound was misteriously restored. So there was some dust indeed.
