Why is my 4S dropping calls all the time?

My 4S has been dropping calls since I purchased it at Radio Shack. I have done every possible thing to fix it, traded out sim cards, reset everything etc...and it still drops calls. Any idea's?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5

iPhone 4s loses reception when the antenna band is touched. Plus, it’s enough to make the iPhone drop calls. This is a serious problem, and I can’t believe Apple let this slip through again!

Ive now noticed that the call dropping issue only happens when both wifi AND mobile data are on at the same time, when one or the other is turned off the calls don't drop and i get the calls coming through, same goes for my girlfriends iphone 4 (on hers it works by disabling 3g instead of mobile data). Ive an appointment tomorrow at the genius bar to see what they say. used iphone 3gs with ios 5 until 2 weeks ago with no problems but after using an adapter and putting the sim back into my 3gs the problem is there, its only running version 5, not the recent update. mobile carrier (o2 uk) mantains they cant see anything wrong with my coverage or signal etc but are lookin into it after similar complaints. Strange it works fine with the wifi off on the fone so cant see it being a carrier problem.

I have been having the same problem with my 4s, and I have gotten my phone replaced already as well. The new one is even worse than the older one it seems with dropped calls. (the battery life is better at least) Apple told me that it could be AT&T's fault, but I had my 3GS in here not too long before and it was working fine, my girlfriend uses her iPhone 4 in here without any problem. So why does my iPhone 4S not work in my home or on the road properly? I use a otterbox defender case just like I did with my 3GS.

the symptoms are the same though: I can hear clearly, yet people can't hear me; call failed with 4 bars; hearing nothing at all with 4 bars. What's the deal?

yip, thats the exact problem i'm having, the strange thing is it was fine for 2 weeks then all of a sudden started happening, I have to say that i think the update 5.0.1 is getting unfairly blamed as i think its a coincidence of timing, I thought it was due to the update as it was not long after i updated my iphone that it happened until i realised my girlfriends phone, which is an iphone 4 with ios 5, started dropping calls upon connection as well and she hadn't done the 5.0.1 update. hope the next update fixes it.

i have the same problem , phone drops incoming calls , when on both wifi and celular data. went to apple store , they gave me new phone , then happened same again. went to see them again , they reset my phone , set it up as a new one , checked and everything was working. when i came back home , problem appeard again , only if i switch off wifi or celular data , call can be received.. will go there tomorrow again . but think its a software problem...

Same here 😟 iphone 4S dropping incoming calls when wifi is turned on. This just started last week for me and now outgoing calls are a problem too, where the the other end can hear me, but I cannot hear them. On the 3rd phone 4S from apple, where they have blamed the carrier, my backup... all else except for apple (since the "genius advisor's" phone is not suffering from this issue). I agree with Igor_UK where I too think that this is a software issue... Apple sort it out please...

I got same problem, and I can see it clearly a phone problem of the 4s coz I used to have 3GS that worked fine before even with ios5.

One time when it dropped the call, I found it searching for network, which is so weird coz I was in a very good coverage area right in the middle of the street.

I'm not really sure if the problem is a hardware or software, but I cannot take it for long especially that the problem is not yet solved even by another new one.

I hate to even think about dumping my iPhone but I'll do it if I couldn't find a solution soon :(

Did the exchange sort the problem out? coz i changes 4 phones all 4S 16gb white , two first ones where dropping incoming calls , and to other ones ALSO dropped calls PLUS had the static noise. in apple they said it's an O2 UK network problem , when i asked why my 3GS works fine with the same sim card (3 sim cards I've changes as well) they said "iphone 4s god different modem so that why only o2 and only with 4s it is happening) so went I smart way and when genius at the bar said to me the same that o2 is crap at the moment , I asked with every phone? he said yeah with every , where in the shop before they said it's only 4S , so i took my money back after fourth handset and keep using 3Gs now. i think it's a white models hardware problem of the some batch or lot.. coz mostly the people complain about white model , and coz my gf's one 32gb black works fine at all.

It doesn't make a difference what model of the 4S that a person is using, in my opinion. I have a black 64gig 4S, I've switched out my phone, turned wifi on and off, turned locations on and off, everything. Everything that is except for boosting my signal with tin foil wrapped around my head :). This seems to be a software issue, that causes static and loss on certain phone calls, and drains the battery with certain programs (even when closed out). I read a post earlier that said the battery issue was basically fixed with the new beta release update. I'm not sure about the call quality issues though, hopefully that will be fixed. I would like to be able to have a full conversation without someone asking me to repeat myself because my iPhone dropped a line of what I said.

I am so glad I have run across this forum! I have been on the phone with AT&T numerous times. I have had the 3GS and 4 for some time and had flawless performance. When I purchased the 4S with iOS5 it all went downhill. Unfortunately, I updated my 'old' 4 to 5.0 and that phone is dropping calls too. I too agree this is definately a software issue.

Please listen APPLE... I love my iPhone 4S but I am so frustrated that I am close to going to AT&T and purchasing an Android! A friend of mine just switched and has had nothing but wonderful things to say about his Samsung.

I look forward to a FULL fix in the 5.0.2 or 5.1 release!

Why is my 4S dropping calls all the time?
