Why is my 4S dropping calls all the time?

My 4S has been dropping calls since I purchased it at Radio Shack. I have done every possible thing to fix it, traded out sim cards, reset everything etc...and it still drops calls. Any idea's?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5

iPhone 4s loses reception when the antenna band is touched. Plus, it’s enough to make the iPhone drop calls. This is a serious problem, and I can’t believe Apple let this slip through again!

This may be the reason for dropping calls, but this isn't the reason for phone isn't available occasionally, while it is on. I've kept 3G off for some time, trying to determine what causes a problem, and I DID NOT experiance dropping calls, but I was unavailable few times, while phone was on. And I have occasionally poor call quality, no matter to 3G or 2G is active.

Hi guys...I am using an iPhone 4 in India and I face severe dropped calls. I am able to listen to the other person but he is unable to hear me. I am on 5.0.1 btw.

The weird part is that this problem stopped a month back when I changed my SIM. Things were fine for 2 weeks and then it started again...more severely in fact! Earlier the calls from some contacts(inc. my boss) never used to drop but now there is no discrimination at all. It is truly frustrating - I love my phone but sometimes I feel like smashing it on the floor.

So a couple of days back I found out a fix, if you can call it that, by accident. When the drop calls (I know by the other persons repeated 'hellos' - used to it by now), I quickly toggle the speaker on and off. And voila - he can hear me again! Of course this is not a fix and you can do it quickly only if you are speaking through your earphone. But just thought of sharing this in case you do not want to miss out on important calls.

Someone mentioned that the calls do not drop if bluetooth is on. Does this work for anyone else?

P.S: have not noticed any difference between 3G/2G or wifi being on or off. Calls drop no matter what

What you are describing is NOT "dropped calls". This is loss of audio on a call, an entirely different problem than the topic of this thread.

Dropped call means you get disconnected entirely - you would not be able to hear the other party and one of you would have to redial to reconnect.

I am following up with my intitial post. I have gone through every possible solution to fix not only constant dropped calls but also issues with calls. Most of the time when I place a call it does not connect...I have to put it on speaker in order to connect. Whether it is the hardware/software or AT&T...it is VERY frustrating. NEED A FIX

I'm having the same problem of dropped calls. I realized that this problem occurs whenever the phone switches from 3G to Edge or vice versa. So I decided to switch off 3G but the problem did not go away. It is still the same, calls are still dropped at no apparent reason I.e. switching between 3G and Edge and/or Edge to GPRS. Why is this happening?

I have the same problem with my iPhone 4S (as well as a couple of other friends). This started to happen once I updated to 5.1 (I stayed away from 5.0.1). It is still happening with 5.1.1.

I've tried the following:

1- Restore

2- Reset all network settings

3- Installed a new micro sim

4- Removed Onavo

The only thing that seemed to help is to turn off 3G, however, force restarting the phone (to fix anything) turns it back on.

After doing all the above it would seem them that it is a hardware issue, however, since it was working before with 5.0 then it is more likely an IOS 5.1 issue, but not all are experiencing the same problem.

At a loss right now.

I’ve been with T-Mobile for 10 years, never knew what a dropped call was, like an IDIOT I switched to Sprint for the Iphone and the fairly decent plan, $80 a month "unlimited" (500 to land lines, everything else is unlimited), and I have probably 8-20 dropped calls a day. I’m in Los Angeles, everywhere I go, I get a dropped call. I've called sprint, put in codes, changed sims, reset, hard reset, got a new Iphone, I've done it all, STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. Sometimes I have to sit there and resend a text 3 times for it to go through. THIS PROBLEM IS UNREASONABLE.

What irritates me the most are those Iphone commercials with Siri, THAT SH*T NEVER WORKS! I was born in the US, I have no speech issues, I talk slow, it either thinks I’m saying something else or just does that rotating microphone thing for minutes. This phone presents a lot, but delivers minimum. The only thing I like about this phone is that is syncs easily to my Mac and that it has group chats, the rest I can get from a simply blackberry, which I must add is probably the most practical and efficient phone on the market. Would do anything to go back to my original blackberry on T-mobile but I signed a contract. Any suggestions would be great, but know I've already dont pretty much everything reasonable to get my problem fixed. Thank you

based off your history of how you reply to others, it seems like you get off on replying to people. don't let me stop you from getting your satisfaction. I'm not one not to put my hand out and ask for help, (reason this thread is here) so I'm not shy to ask for your help, if you have a reasonable solution. saying cancel you plan, pay the cancellation fee and go to Verizon wouldn't be reasonable, so that's what I mean. now, I've taken this phone to the iPhone "genius" and to sprint. they've tried all they know, have you figured some magical way to fix the problem? I doubt it, if so the original person posting this initial thread wouldn't have the problem still. but again, please enlighten me on your reasonable or unreasonable way because I and others on this thread are surely interested. also if you have PayPal, I'd love to pay you for your time. a man like you with so much Iphone education shouldn't be educating us for free, your time should be compensated, of course at a reasonable rate. so your thoughts?

Why is my 4S dropping calls all the time?
