How do you 'think' you saved your docs to iCloud? Was it from your Mac, or your iPhone/iPad?
LOL I have an iMac, iPad, iPhone. When I activated iCloud I set the docs, calendar, etc to sync with iCloud.
I specifically have some spreadsheets I use between my iMac and iPad that I am trying to use. I used to upload these files to iDisk and download them from whichever device I was using at the time. Does it work the same with iCloud?
No, it doesn't work the same way. Your docs are automatically saved in iOS on your iPhone and iPad from the iWorks apps to iCloud, and each of these devices will be able to see your docs automatically. On your Mac, however, this does not happen. You have to manually up/download them via iCloud.com on the iWorks icon.
Hopefully a future update to iWorks will resolve this, but who knows.
Once a document is uploaded to icloud on a mac how do you get to open and edit or download the file for editing....I have several files (all of them) that now will not open or download.
You just goto the iWorks icon on iCloud.com, click on the file you want to download, then click on 'download'.
Yep that is what I thought too but when I click on the file it will not open...None of the usual drop down menus appear.....Needless to say it worked yesterday...
'Drop down menus'? What do you mean?
There was a menu that said delete doc, upload doc, or download doc....Now download is grayed out.....HOWEVER...Just noticed that it all works fine on my Ipad...NOW any file I have opened on my ipad will work exactly as you say....Click and download appears on the file....Looks like whenever I upload to icloud I will have to have my ipad next to me to the doc and then I will be able to read it again on my mac and Imac....Somehow I think an update will be coming.....
ipad and iPod with iOS5 will not let you open the www.icloud.com website. Instead you see a wizard that recommends you to install the "find my iphone.app" .
I know that because I have these devices ..
the icloud.com site is only accesible in its true form from PC/Mac browsers.
And for what reason should one need to download documents that are already stored locally inside pages, numbers and keynote on these iOS devices ? ..
No, you don't need to have your iPad next to you. Just go to iCloud.com as stated earlier, click on the file and you can download it to your Mac.

That's because all the functionality - apart from the ability to reset Photostream - of iCloud.com is built-in to iOS5. There is nothing you can do on icloud.com that you can't do on iOS devices.
So I can read them on a mac or update them on a mac...
I know that is the way it is supposed to work but these documents where put in icloud from my imac and they do not seem to be able to be opened until I open them on my ipad...Where I have left the original file on my imac I can make changes to the file and replace the file that was previously uploaded to icloud---I just can't open it until I have opened it on my ipad....Strange....

that is how it is designed..
iwork on iOS uses different file extensions and formats (*.tef ) then iwork for Mac (*.number,*.key*.page) . It needs to be converted all the times so that the different apps can deal with the content of the documents.
Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant. Sjazbec is correct, that is how it designed to work.
