Podcasts will not sync to Classic

I'm at a complete and utter loss.

One day updated podcasts stopped syncing to my iPod Classic. I've done everything I can think of, google searches, asking friends and can't come up with a solution.

Here's what I've tried:

-Checked my anti-virus software

-Rebooted

-Restored

-Uninstalled/Reinstalled iTunes

-Used a different USB port

-Used a different connector

-Tried different settings on iTunes, including selecting manual syncing.

I don't know if this problem is hardware vs. software. Right now here's what's happening. After one of the restores, I deleted all of my podcasts and resubscribed to see if that would help...it didn't. I can download audio and video podcasts onto iTunes, when I connect my iPod it indicates that it's syncing but my iPod states "no podcasts". I'm not sure if perhaps the podcasts are in a different folder under My Music, but last I checked the podcasts were in the Music>Podcast folder.

I don't know if I'm missing some vital step but I'm literally losing my mind trying to figure out what's happened and would love any/all suggestions.

One other thing. I ran the Sync Diagnostic on iTunes and it said that no iPod could be found. This is strange because when I do my restore, all of my old music library syncs, just nothing new.

I know this post is long dead. But I am having the issue. I tried the directions as mentioned, but I am still only getting the newest 14 video podcasts and cant seem to get any older. I just subscribed to the podcast so everything is new and there is over 400 podcasts.

This sounds to me as though you are talking about downloading Podcasts into iTunes, whereas this thread has been discussing the issue of getting Podcasts from an iTunes Library onto an iPod Classic.

Is your problem trying to download Podcasts from the internet to your iTunes Library?

It's probably going to be one of two things:

  1. the videos are in a format that the iPod cannot play, so they will no be copied onto the iPod. However, you should see a message telling you that "some videos have not been copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on the iPod".
  2. the videos are not actually downloaded to your iTunes Library so cannot be copied to the iPod. Do the videos that do not copy over have a cloud-with-an-arrow to the right of the title (and the TV icon)? Like so:User uploaded file These are all audio Podcasts, but the same thing applies to video too.

To download those episodes to your iTunes Library, click on the cloud.

I had same problem and this is how i fixed it...
1. connect iphone to the Itunes via USB

2. ensure the required podcasts are selected to sync in the itunes library on your PC under the device settings

3. on the iphone open podcasts and delete the podcasts

4. the podacst will reappear but the cloud download icon will have gone and you can now play the saved podcast.

So this is what I think .... Itunes is working fine, but the new podcast app on the phone thinks it must download the podcast despite having the file already.

hope this helps

KFL44:

I'm not sure that your post adds anything to this discussion. Iggystar's post (to which you replied) was more than two years ago.

Not only that, but this discussion is in the iPod Classic arena and refers specifically to the Classic.

Iggystar has a Classic, not an iPhone or iPod Touch. You cannot delete Podcasts directly on a Classic, it has to be done through its iTunes Library.

Are you now attempting to help Durant A? If so, you should have replied to Durant A's post, not Iggystar's. But since Durant A did not respond to my post (of 9th March) referring to the cloud symbol, no one knows what exactly the issue was or whether it has been solved.

  • The iPod Classic does not use the Podcast app.
  • Durant A's problem was not iPod specific, so presumably, as his/her post was added to a discussion on the Classic, it's fair to assume that he, or she, has a Classic, not an iPhone.

Now we know! 😁

Did you ever get to the bottom of the issue you were having?

I am trying to get a 2 year podcast selection onto my iPod.

14 videos transfer the rest wont go despite my best efforts.

Ah! and now I see your update. Sorry to hear that your issue has not been resolved.

If it still bothers you, perhaps you should review this thread and see if reading it again helps at all.

Friend,

Yes okay - sorry not all up to speed as you obviously are. (the problems seamed similar to me but granted not exactly the same.)

looking through the posts I saw that over time the post had change, in that respect replies were no longer speciffically to iggystar. There were more resent posts I thought my issue was similar in nature and probably worth a try on the old classic. Looking through your posts you are obvioulsy in IT as all your posts are technically correct but do not actually resolve anything. I like most people would just like my stuff to work that way it was sold to us. Perhaps you efforts and skill would be better place in resolving the issues that get us all coming to the forum in the first place, as opposed to shooting done someone elses attempt to assist, unless you are just trying to increase you level status and boost you own ego. (in which case please continue) You have a pleasant day now.

Dear "the fiend"

Thought I was going crazy when all of a sudden I couldn't synch some new podcasts I was trying out using the Ipod classic.

Your tip about the cloud solved the problem. This note was from Mar. 8, 2014 to DurantA.

Thank you. Thank you.

Such a simple step. Too bad, Apple doesn't publish this directly. I did spend quite a while researching the issue until finding your tip.

You guys think this post is dead, but it's not. I just upgraded to 11.3 and now, none of my podcasts sync. They all default to having to the cloud thing and sure, if you click the cloud, they download and will sync to my iPod. However this does not solve my problem. I should NOT have to click 60 different clouds to get the same functionality I used to have just plugging in. All I want is my latest 10 episodes to download when I start iTunes and sync when my iPod is connected. This shouldn't be that hard.

Hello,

The same thing was happening to me, as I just got a new ipod classic, and a new computer (old one crashed) I finally saw that if you go to the podcast that you want to sync (provided it was downloaded already) and hover over it, an arrow pops up, click on it, and find "add to", and your ipod should show on the menu if your ipod is connected. It has worked for me for 4 podcasts now.... Hope this helps!
