iPhone 4S sound problems

I have had the iPhone 4S for a week or so now and everything was working fine, but all of a sudden the "Keyboard Clicks" and "Lock Sounds" have stopped working. I have checked the sounds section of settings and both of these are set to on but the sounds still don't work. I have also noticed that certain apps have lost their sound as well. I have tried a full restore but that didn't do anything to help as far as I can tell, does anyone know why these sound have stopped working?

@Shawhawk1 - i didn't do the step with the alcohol. Maybe i'll try that next. Is your sound still working? This happened to me once before, then I took an app off that I thought was causing the problem and it worked. Now it started up again. I can't think of any new app that I put on that would cause this to happen (Pet Rescue 🙂?)

Yes! This totally worked for me! I was very frustrated, thinking that the ios 7.0.4 update had messed up the external sound on my iPhone 4. Turns out that I was using my phone on an audio/sound dock charger last night, and remember that the sound was cutting out then too. Thought I'd give this a try, and it worked!!!

With a toothpick, I picked out the large lint and dust particles. And took a new soft-bristle toothbrush, poured a few drops of witch hazel on it, and gently cleaned the contacts. srode1000 was totally correct. The phone was thinking that it was docked. After cleaning the contacts, my external sound is back. NO resetting to factory defaults/backups/restores needed.

Thanks srode1000, for the easy and successful fix!!!

I tried all of the things mentiond in this discussion and none of them fixed it for me.

The problem for me was that the phone thought it was connected to a dock, even when it wasn't and no amount of cleaning or other jiggery pokery was able to convince it otherwise.

The only thing that worked was a replacement docking port. This of course was the most expensive solution but I tried everything else.

It is now back to normal with its new docking port.

iPhone 4S iOS7 No Sound Apps/Music (Solution)

I just bought iPhone 4S 32GB Black with iOS 7.1.1 about 3 months ago. I found the phone interesting as I love to use Apple devices. Couple of weeks ago I realized that phone had an issue with sounds and it loses the sound when I play games, apps or music. But sounds were perfect for alarms, clocks, ringtones and everything else belongs to the operating system. Listening to the handsfree was ok but sometimes it also loses the sounds very sudden. It loses the sounds very instant and volume bar just disappeared or turns grey when touched. nothing comes up if you use side buttons to volume up and down. It was a big issue as I just love the sound quality of Apple devices. I put my head into the internet and found more than 10 ways to get rid of the problem. Some of the problems I tried are as:

1. I blown the air in headphone jack and charging jack to wipe out the dust.

2. I used the brush to wipe out the dust from all holes.

3. I restored the set in every single manner.

4. I plug in plug out several times the handsfree.

5. I deleted every single app if that was creating issue.

6. I checked for vibrate button if it was in vibrate mode.

7. I checked every settings from settings menu and individual apps.

8. I removed iCloud ID and all the data.

9. I checked AirDrop method.

But, not a single issue was helpful for me. Then I just found another way but I was afraid to try that because it was clearly mentioned that you are going to hit the hardware directly. I went to the mobile phone repairing expert friend as it's quite common in Pakistan as we've 10 repairers on each street. He helped me out in that way. Let's read what he did.

The Joker Method - (Puts A Blade in Her Mouth)

He opened the two screws that are well tighten within your phone's bottom area. He pushed the back plate slightly to up and the phone is now naked and I can see the battery. There is another small screw holding the battery jack. He removed that screw and battery as well so he can prevent my phone from shortage or short circuit while repairing. Once he was done with that, he took a paper cutter or carpet blade that is a quite common thing available within any home. He puts the blade in charging jack area under the 30 pins plate and slightly pushed the plate up with help of that blade. He pressed the blade upwards as he felt that charging jack was not in original place. He was done with that. He put all the screws and batteries in right orders. He switched on the phone. Corrected the date, time and especially YEAR so I was up to have GSM/GPRS signals. AND, I PLAY MUSIC, GAMES and everything was WORKING FINE!

He further explained me that if the problem remain same after some hours so please come back to replace the charging jack as it's always hardware issue and it's quite common among all iphone 4S devices. The replacement of charging jack will cost 7$ with repairing time of 20 minutes and 7 days guarantee for the sound. But I am happy as it's been 14 days and I am enjoying each and everything pretty wonderful on my iphone.

he finds that putting the phone into speaker dock basically misplace the charging jack as the phone is always on its weight when you put it on speaker dock. Or if you ever tried to hang the phone while charging so it may also caused the misplace in charging jack that was missing the sound.

PLEASE ALWAYS ASK TO EXPERTS BEFORE DOING ANYTHING TO YOUR PHONE AND DON'T EVER TRY THESE METHODS IF YOUR PHONE IS IN WARRANTY. PLEASE TRY IT AT YOUR OWN RISK AS I AM NOT LIABLE TO CAUSE OF ANY KIND OF PHYSICAL AND SOFTWARE DAMAGE TO YOUR PHONE.

Good Evening, Its about my I phone 4 s

All sounds (except he once of voice memos and ringing when somebody is calling or during calling) are sometimes working and sometimes not. Earphones or The iPhone speaker all the same: e.G key tones, music, directions when using maps, podcasts, text message etc. work only sometimes to rarely. playing with the settings in the preferences can help for a while or press pause/play and as well removing and replugging the minijack...I already restored it and also did a du-restore. what else could it be and what can i do and how much will it cost? Thanks in advance yours Christoph
