Yahoo emails randomly disappearing in iPad

I have a problem with Yahoo emails randomly disappearing when I use my iPad. I found an old discussion regarding this issue here, but don't seem to find a fix or any recent update: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1059223?start=0&tstart=0

Basically, I started noticing about a month ago that I couldn't find anymore certain emails I had filed in folders. At first I thought it was a fluke, but now it has happened 4-5 times (that I know of). I am 100% positive that I did not delete the emails by accident. As far as I can remember, I am pretty sure that all of the mails that are missing are ones that I filed into folders using the iPad (but not all emails filed into folders from the iPad are missing, only random ones). Who knows how many other mails are missing that I didn't know of or how long this has been going on.

For the moment, I guess I will stop filing mail using the iPad (only read mail on iPad, and then file later when I am at my PC). But does anyone else experienced this and have any suggestions?

Just to add my experience. I have an iPhone 4 which I've had for over a year and an iPad 2 which I was given for Christmas. Both are operating iOS 5.0.1.

I've noticed emails disappearing from my yahoo mail on my iPad but thought I must have filed them in the wrong folders and put it down to user error. However this morning I filed a load of emails ( none of mine are travel related by the way, mostly filing into EBay, Purchases and Campaign folders). This afternoon I went into the Campaign folder to look at an attachment and as one of the other contributors said, I saw the emails for a nano second, then the update process occurred and they were gone. That's not entirely true because one of the six I transferred was there but not all the replies, just the original email. All the other separate emails and their replies had gone.

What I've now discovered, and here's where it gets more weird, is that when I check the folders on my iPhone the emails are all present and correct!! They both have the same operating system and they synch over my wireless network and they are gone on the iPad and there on my iPhone! Is this crazy or what?!

I will be reporting this to Apple as suggested and as you all advise, not putting anything into folders via my iPad. V frustrating.

I am having similar issues. I believe I have solved the problem. My email were randomly disappearing from my iPad and iPhone. This is definitely a bug in the IOS sofware. I have deleted my Yahoo account from both iPhone and IPad and recreated them differently. Dont's use the default YAHOO when creating an account, instead choose OTHER and enter the data manually. Create the account as a POP not a IMAP otherwise you will have issues as before. The default YAHOO account that comes with the devices is IMAP.

On Device Choose:

Settings

Mail, Contacts, Calendars

Add Account

Other

Add Mail Account

Enter data and Choose Next

Select POP

Enter Incoming server : pop.mail.yahoo.com and Outgoing Server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

Choose save and you are good to go.

I fixed this for a family member.

She had a Mac, iphone 3GS ios 3.x, and fairly new ipad. ATT/Yahoo email.

iphone and ipad mail were configured using IMAP, Mac was using POP to get mail.

Mac was configured to check for mail every 15 mins and delete mail from server. iphone and ipad would show some emails briefly in the inbox, then mac would suck them down and delete them, then the IMAP clients would "sync" and mails would disappear from inboxes. (just my theory -- have no experience with IMAP)

Fix was to get mac to leave mail on server. This option is available in mac mail settings when you use POP. Mac was on most recent OS version.

This problem showed up with the purchase of the ipad, so blame was unfairly pointed at the ipad. Looks like it was just a coincidence. An OS upgrade on the mac may have changed the mail settings.

I have a new 4S and I can't find an option to configure mail for POP. My preferred configuration for a desktop-centric user would be to configure the mac to delete from server and have the other mobile devices use POP and leave mail on server.

At any rate the problem seems to be fixed for now.

I'm pretty sure this was a problem on Yahoo's end and they fixed it. A few months back a "Recovered Mail" folder showed up on my account with all the mail that went missing over the 6 month period this occured during (from around August 2011 to about Jan 2012). Since then I haven't noticed any missing mail.

I still use Mozilla Thunderbird IMAP to sync and backup my Yahoo mail periodically on my PC just in case, but so far all mail I move to folders has stayed there.

Hi everyone

After initially posting this many months ago, yahoo finally fixed the issue! Yahoo created a new "synced email" folder and the missing messages should be there. I checked it and all of the emails I remember losing ( plus many more I didn't know I lost....were in there!
