installing USB driver

I am trying to install an Adaptec USB2Connect card for notebooks on my G3 Powerbook with OS 9.2.2. Installation instructions say I need to download a USB driver, but can't find one on the Apple site. You can email me at fresnoadvo1@hotmail.com

Hi, chal70. The card will work with the Apple USB drivers that are included in OS 9.2.2, but unless the card was in place when OS 9.2.2 was installed OR your PB G3 has built-in USB ports of its own, those drivers weren't installed (because no hardware that could benefit from them was detected by the installer application).

I assume you probably have a Wallstreet G3 without any USB ports, and that that's why you bought the card. If that's the case, you can obtain the necessary USB extensions by using this link (a direct download link, not a web page) to download a small .sit archive called "usbextensions.sit" to your computer. After downloading it, decompress it with Stuffit Expander (this may happen automatically, depending on how your system is configured), open the folder, and drag and drop the five extensions inside it onto your closed System Folder. Click OK when asked if you want them put in their proper places. Then restart your computer and test the adapter card again.
