iOS 5/iPad 2 proxy settings not being remembered

I recently upgraded one of my iPad 2's to iOS 5, but I seem to be having an issue the Wi-Fi connection in work. The wireless network has a hidden SSID and it requires some Manual proxy settings being put into the wireless config.

When I input the relevant information it seems to hold fine for a few seconds but when I go into Safari it prompts for an https:// proxy username and password, if I input the correct details it just prompts again and no matter how many times I input the correct information it still prompts for it over and over again, to the point that you just have to switch the wireless off to stop the message from flashing up.

I have an iPad 2 on iOS 4.3.5 and the same setting work perfectly fine on this iPad 2 but will not work on iOS 5.

I have even tried a Linksys Wireless Access Point plugged into the network with no hidden SSID etc and I still get the same thing on the iOS 5 iPad 2 it continually prompts for the proxy details, but the iOS 4.3.5 iPad2 works fine.

Is this a known glitch or am I just being a total idiot : ( ?

No it has not i still have the same issues with my IOS devices. I connect to a DET (school) network as a teacher which means i am prompted every thirty seconds so i have to dismiss this every time. Also icloud doesnt work from behind the proxy.

I have requested they put in settings for proxies into numbers keynote and pages so i can effectively use icloud because as it stands it is useless to me atm as my docs and spreadsheets dont update until i open up my ipad at home.

Hi Everyone,

This post has been quiet for a while so I'm assuming that this is still an ongoing issue. Does anyone know of an App that would still authenticate your crendentials locally (ie not send your details out to a server) and overide apples default iPad settings?

It would be good to have an app that would store all of your proxy settings and gather information from here rather than settings.

Any ideas?

its seems that problem resolved with ios 8.1.3 and above

Unfortunately, I have to bump this post, as the problem seems to have come back with iOS 9. I personally don't have an Apple device, but I'm the admin at our school, and I want to offer all my users, regardless of what device they are using, the best user experience. We are legally required to use a proxy, as all internet access needs to be logged.

I have one colleague who still hasn't updated her phoen to 9, so it still runs on 8, no problems with authetication there. However, some of my colleagues always want the latest version, and iOS 9 shows the problem again: Every 30 seconds or so my users are prompted to re-enter their credentials.

Any advice from experienced Apple users or devs?

Thanks a lot!

Peter
