Pro Tools - 'Not a Valid Audio Volume'

This is on a new mid range PowerMac G5, trying to open new session, when trying to save - session must be on a record volume. Also when trying to open a session elsewhere and trying to save - 'not a valid audio volume.'
Have tried calling Pro Tool - after suggesting formatting my HDD (which i have done) they said that it is a hardware problem. I have called Apple, they say it is a Pro Tools problem.... Aaaah
Does anyone have a suggestion?

G4/G5/Intel Core Duo - It varies, Mac OS X (10.4.4)
