Best graphics card upgrade for Mac Pro (late 2011)

Hi

Im a bit new to this to bear with me 🙂

I recently brought a Mac Pro (October 2011) and and left the graphics card as the ATI 5770, and I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by the graphics performance when playing games. I have it connected to a 27" cinema display with the possibility to connect another 27" cinema display to it.

I was just wondering if there were any other mac/osx compatible graphics cards (with 2 mini display ports) other than the ATI 5870 or would the 5870 be a decent upgrade?

I run parallel on my mac so can play games on Windows as well without having to restart my mac like bootcamp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris

Do you know about the ATI 6970, how can i supply it.. cause they need 1 6-pin PCI-E and 1 8-Pin PCI-E to supply this card.. how can I do... I bought the card and now I'm very frustated about this point !

Second question.. is possible keep the 5770 running Mac OS and Install the 6970 to run Windons only ??.. if it is possible, how about the power supply again... its is possible to have 2 cards with the original PowerSource of the MAC PRO 2011?

Tks !

I know this is a bit late... I found out why my Mac Pro runs slow. I was doing the samething you were running Parallels. The problem is that your running 2 different OS at the same time, then on top of that several programs such as a game, 2 OS, parallels, OS X and what ever else your running.

I no longer use Parallels. WIndows takes up 32 gigs of hard drive space. I switched and started to use bootcamp, I find bootcamp to run things much smoother and faster. Plus I added 12 TB to the computer each HD has 3 TB to it. I run one OS on one and the other OS on the other. All I do is boot into one of them and now I am playing some of the best games on the market without it running slow... The other 2 HD I use for business and the other for OS X entertainment... I just boot into which ever one I want to use.

I had the same setup as you and things just werent working to well... So I changed all that and now I am much happier. The reason I didicated one HD for windows is cause I dont want to accidently download a virus and it affect that entire HD. Cause then I have to a erase reinstall which means I lose allot if I forgot to backup something. I also have other reasons why I more than one HD... This was just my experience and how I got around all the mumbo jumbo...
