Best graphics card upgrade for Mac Pro (late 2011)

Hi

Im a bit new to this to bear with me 🙂

I recently brought a Mac Pro (October 2011) and and left the graphics card as the ATI 5770, and I have to say I was a bit underwhelmed by the graphics performance when playing games. I have it connected to a 27" cinema display with the possibility to connect another 27" cinema display to it.

I was just wondering if there were any other mac/osx compatible graphics cards (with 2 mini display ports) other than the ATI 5870 or would the 5870 be a decent upgrade?

I run parallel on my mac so can play games on Windows as well without having to restart my mac like bootcamp.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Chris

Good questions aren't a pain... 🙂

Informed decisions are best.

The 5870 has a slight fps edge over the 6870, but is also hotter and more power hungry.

I think it also may be more expensive......

The 6970 also has it's ID within OS X (10.6.7 and later) drivers.

The 6970 can be made to work:

The 6970 is the fastest of these three cards.

I have to say that I am very satisfied with my 6870, which is an upgrade from a 5770.....

Very quiet, and all gameplay smooth and vivid.
