I need help organizing my Loop Library

I've been researching this online but just cannot find the answer.

I have GB11' (ver 6.0.4) operating on OS X Lion (ver 10.7.2).

I've learned how to add custom loops by using drag-and-drop and Apple Loop Utility

But I am still having troubles so I'd like to ask a few questions

How do I add an entire folder of loops?

I've tried drag-and-drop, GB seems to respond to it and would begin to load data, but I cannot seem to find it anywhere in the library.

I could, however, add them individually and it works without a problem.

I've tried Loop Utility too, but after saving the files it still would not appear in my GB library.

(the files are in correct format .WAV and .AIFF)

Where are the physical files of the custom loops located?

So GB won't let me add an entire folder of loops, fine. I've managed to add a few individually, BUT! Where are the physical files?

One discussion I found from here said that different versions of GB save the files in different locations.

According to the article, I should be able to find them in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops/User Loops

But on my Mac there is no "User Loops" folder. (They are not in "/Apple Loops for GB" either.)

The bizzare thing is, these loops still work in GB!!!

The reason I'm asking this is because I'd like to get rid of some undesired loops I added while testing.

Also, I want to rename them so I can easily locate them.

But this seem impossible because I cannot find the actual files..

So the last question is

How do I delete or rename the loops?

If I can't rename it, at least let me delete it so I can reupload!!!

The "Loop Index" does not contain any information about the loops I added either.

Any help will be appreciated!!

Thank you for your time!!

dropping the folder onto the browser pane _is_ indeed how you add loops. perhaps it's a setting in your project:

and they have been formatted as "Apple Loops"?

see the end of the above FAQ entry

i don't believe you can from within GB, you'd have to drop the renamed file onto the loop browser to index it

there is usually more than 1 index file (not sll stored in the same place). see the reindexing entry for help in finding them:

Hi HangTime thank you so much for the response!

Would you elaborate more on "formatted as 'Apple Loops'?"

Please excuse my ignorance but my understanding is that .AIF and .WAV and .MP3 files (or even more) are all compatible apple loop formats. If not how do I convert them??

And as for location, I think I'm either ******** or my Mac is playing a nasty prank on me.

I just cannot locate this "USER LOOPS" folder!!!

I do realized, however, something interesting when I import them individually.

When I add a loop in the library, GB will convert the original file to .AIF (from the original .MP3) and replace it with the converted. So I thought that was the physical file.

But guess what? I can remove or even delete that file and the loop still exist in GB and it still works!

That must mean that GB already made a copy of the file and hid it somewhere...

BUT WHEREEEE!!! 😢

Just to show you that I'm not crazy... but User Loops just does not exist on my Mac... 😟

Pretty sure the directory is correct (hard drive)/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/... and nothing!!!

User uploaded file

Also, /Apple Loops Index folder contains two files and they're both .txt files.

I discovred that they only have info about GB loops and they are not modifiable.

When I tried to move them, I was asked to authenticate the command, so I figured I shouldn't mess around with those files.

They are named "Search Index 9BB4C57A-842E-4F96-BC44-29CEC3D7F725" and "Search Index 1010E99F-334F-48CC-B60C-61A33F272B28"

Thank you again!!! 😀

"Apple Loops" have meta data that tells GB about the audio it contains, like tempo, key, etc. there used to be a utility called (cleverly) Apple Loops Utility, but last i recall it no longer runs under 10.6 and later.

i think when you drop a single file into the browser it takes that info from your current projects and adds the meta data, that would be nonsensical on a folder, so it doesn't add any data.

no, take a look at the FAQ entry again

that's not the only folder. it is safe to delete them, as long as you reindex, as explained in that FAQ entry
