Can't Disable Automatic Downloads - Prefs Always Reset!

Ever since automatic downloads became a feature in iTunes, I have to dismiss a couple of annoying dialogs *every* time I launch iTunes. I have unchecked all the various boxes in iTunes > Prefs > Store, but each and every time I do this, these boxes invariably become "rechecked", even during the same iTunes session.

What do I have to do to disable automatic downloads? Seems like the prefs would pretty much be the place to do it.

I set prefs like this:

User uploaded file

and the Automatic Downloads boxes always re-check themselves after a short time.

As a result, I always see this dialog when I launch iTunes:

User uploaded file

- usually twice in a row, not sure why...

Apple has checked that there are no devices set up for auto d/l's on my account. I really wish I could get this behavior to stop, it's pretty annoying, especially where there are prefs right there to let you customize it. Must be a bug I guess...

Thanks!

Jim, thank you so much for taking the time to help.

I am running iTunes 10.5.1. On my account page I see "iTunes in the Cloud", as you mentioned. I see no "Manage devices" button to click on - instead, I see only "Learn More", which takes me to a page where I either purchase a subscription or click on "No Thanks", which brings me to my Music Library.

I've looked around for another place the "Manage devices" button might be found, but without success.

If anything else comes to you, Jim, or someone else, I'd be very interested in hearing from you. Thanks again.

ASame problem, multiple messages to sign in to authorize automatic downloads (not choice to not automatically download?) and begins to download "Cleek man of forty faces", a Librivox book I deleted weeks ago.

I notice there is a message I have downloads waiting, no way to review these and decide if I want them?

I also do not have other devices or "manage" in cloud...

I tried the reset...

wish Itunes would give us the choice, like, do you want to download whatever we decide you should download?

or not?

this is even creepier... clicked download those downloads waiting? they are books I purchased years ago, downloading again.... what's up?

Hey group. I'm having the same problem only opposite.

I just got my MBPr last week and have spent most of my time on it tweaking it to my liking and creating usability and fully unleashing my iPhone 4S.

I desire to have my automatic downloads enabled, and have turned the option on on my phone.

However, when I go to iTunes preferences and try to enable the option for "Apps, Music, Books" and check all three boxes, hit ok, and then verify it's completed...going back into preferences shows the boxes once again unchecked. :-/

Has anyone else had this problem too?

I'm running the latest software of Mountain Lion 10.8.1 and iTunes 10.5.1 (I think).

I was on the phone with AppleCare for an hour yesterday and am calling them back this evening.

Any suggestions? Or might the above solution work, removing my devices and such and starting from scratch?

Thanks for any helpful feedback!!
