iPhone 4, VW Golf Bluetooth issues

Just got a brand new 2012 Golf TDI with navigation. My iPhone 4 with iOS 5 paired just fine via Bluetooth and the phone part works awesomely well. The problem is with music via Bluetooth. I cannot browse, select or play the content of my phone from the car system. Everything is grayed out. It will play audio only if I manually play it from the phone itself. Apple tells me that VW will need to update their software, iOS 5 being so new. Fair enough, I will check with VW. The dock connector cable works great though, but you have to select it in the Music app because it connects to Bluetooth by default.

But the most annoying thing is that when I turn the car off and walk away, the audio part of the phone (ringers and alerts) still think it's connected to the car and stays at minimum volume. I have to manually restore it every time I leave the car. Now that is obviously an Apple issue. The phone should come back to the state it was in before connecting to the car's Bluetooth. If I forget to restore volume, I may miss important phone calls or texts...User uploaded file

Just talked to VW Customer Service. They are aware of the problem (it's fairly universal) and are working on a software fix. However, I'm told that for now we'll have to be satisfied with the i phone's telephone bluetoothed through the radio wirelessly and music from the i phone through the radio only by using the MP3 or USB ports.

My local shop tried the system with both an i-phone and 2 androids (including one running ice cream) with the same no-bluetooth audio results. VW Customer service also told me that the problem is not exclusive to Apple's latest iOS. However, I've never experienced blue-tooth telephone problems through the radio with my i phone 4S.

Great news everyone!!! I installed iOS 5.1 beta on my iPhone 4 and the volume Bluetooth problem is gone!!!

For most unless you are in the Apple iOS developer program you won't be able to install it yet but once it's released the problem should be fixed.

Something to note.. I did have to turn the volume up once after it connected to my 2012 VW GTI. Since then it has stayed where I put it and I couldn't be happier.

Not happy with how long it took to get resolved but nonetheless happy it is resolved. Let just hope it stays resolved when it goes public.

Hey, just joining the party. Got the same problem with my 2012 VW Golf TDI. Went so far as to getting my phone replaced today because I had no clue what was going on for months. Unfortunately, neither did any of the people I spoke to at The Apple Store where I live. They were all stumped and none of them ever heard of this problem. The only reason I found out about VW being the cause is because I suddenly had a feeling that it had something to do with the Bluetooth in my car. Guess I was right because I found this post. Really glad I now know I wasn't going insane and being the only person on the planet with this problem! Haha... And like everyone else, I hope this gets resolved very quickly. What an annyoing problem!!!

I have a 2012 jetta TDI that I bought this week.

I have been able to get music, phone and alerts to work with no problem via Bluetooth with iOS 5.1 installed

The only problem I have is that when I get in the car, the music on the iPhone just starts, even if I'm not listening to it. Have to pause it Or it will just keep playing

Also, I will only hear alerts from text, etc if I have media running. Otherwise I don't hear it. Phone rings no matter what

I've just got a 2012 Audi A6 and I have a similar problem. Every time I enter my car and the music starts up, the volume on the iPhone is set to 0 no matter what setting it was on the last time it played music via Bluetooth.

It is a complete pain, as it means I then have to get my phone out of my pocket to hit the "Volume Up" button before it will produce any volume from the car speakers! 😟

My problem with my new 2012 gof TDI is since a few weeks ago connectivity is sparse or not at all. It worked fine when I first got my iphone 4s, my only omplaint was the major volume differences between radio and iphone on my radio. I will try pairing again today. Hands free no longer works. No-one can hear me. Other posts point to Apple software changes not the VW.
