Wrong Time Zone after iOS5 Update

I updated my WiFi-only iPad1 to iOS5 a couple of weeks ago. Except for the faster battery drain, it seemed to be working fine. This morning when I turned it on, the time displayed was off by several hours. I looked at the setting for date and time, and the time zone had set itself to "Shanghai." I had to turn "Set Automatically" off in order to manually change the time zone back to Pacific time where I live.

Now if I turn "Set Automatically" back on, it immediately changes my time zone back to Shanghai. I am connected to my home WiFi network when this happens. Has anyone else seen this problem?

I just noticed today that my iPhone is the wrong time zone. I was looking ahead to next week in my calendar and it showed all my recurring appointments off by an hour starting next week. I went to check settings and see that it's got me in a time zone that has daylight savings time. Daylight savings time ends tomorrow so I expect my phone will now screw up my time. My spouse's phone is also having the same problem. If I turn off automatic, it goes to my correct time zone, then turning it back on goes to the incorrect time zone again.

Well, here in the us daylight savings ends at 3am tomorrow morning. If there is a glitch in the iOS software to get 'lost' with the time changes, I imagine the forum will be buzzing with it tomorrow.

It's also possible that the automatic setting is the 'victim' of various programming glitches at the source of its info (in other words if hte server it's getting it's auto setting from is off, then it'll be off. Same reason anyone with an older VCR/DVR can't leave their daylight savings setting to auto since the weeks moved.

Well it's not just the DST that's the problem, the problem is that it has me set to the wrong time zone. It's the time zone next to me, which if we followed DST here as well, I wouldn't actually notice there was a problem. But because that time zone changes and mine doesn't, it was the reason I noticed. I would have thought others would have noticed before DST because the time zone it has you in may not be the same time as your time zone (as in OP's case).

I am in Los Angeles and right after 1:59am it went to 1:00am. The problem is that an hour and a half later, the clock said 1:30am. I went to my settings and it was set on automatic but with my time zone as "Anchorage".

When I toggled it off, the time zone corrected to Los Angeles, as did the clock. I did this several times back and forth, and my phone still seems to believe I'm in Anchorage.

I checked my phone using both Find My Friends and Find My iPhone, from my phone and both of those showed me in the correct location. Were you using the app from the device, or from a different device?

I noticed this morning that my iPad has me in the time zone to the east of me while my iPhone has me in the time zone to the west of me.

Neither restarting or resetting resolves the issue for me like it has for some others.

This morning (first day of new time change) my iPhone 4S was one hour ahead. I saw the time zone had changed itself from Cupertino (I'm on the west coast) to Denver. I had to turn off 'Set Automatically', change back to Cupertino, then the time is correct. But when I turn on 'Set Automatically' the time zone changes back to Denver and the time is now one hour ahead again. Does it over and over.

**Update: I simply turned the phone off then back on and the problem cleared itself up. It didn't require a reset, just the regular turn-off by holding the power switch for a few seconds then swiping the red slider across the top. The time zone is now correctly holding Cupertino even when 'Set Automatically' is ON.
