Wrong Time Zone after iOS5 Update

I updated my WiFi-only iPad1 to iOS5 a couple of weeks ago. Except for the faster battery drain, it seemed to be working fine. This morning when I turned it on, the time displayed was off by several hours. I looked at the setting for date and time, and the time zone had set itself to "Shanghai." I had to turn "Set Automatically" off in order to manually change the time zone back to Pacific time where I live.

Now if I turn "Set Automatically" back on, it immediately changes my time zone back to Shanghai. I am connected to my home WiFi network when this happens. Has anyone else seen this problem?

Hi, I am in UK, and my default time zone is a mess for the past few days. Sometimes, restarting the phone fixed it and it goes back to Sao Paolo time zone. On other times reseting the network settings fix it, but then after sometime it goes back to Sao Paolo again. The first time it happens i almost miss a very important meeting. Can any apple technician tell me what to do to fix this problem.?

I had a similar bizarre situation. It kept locating me in Central Time Zone. I discovered it because a satellite app told me to expect an Iridium flare in 48 minutes, but it was already later than that! I couldn't shake myself out of Chicao, even though we don't live in CST. (What's very strange about all this is that I was restoring a backup to this iPhone 4 from another iPhone 4, which didn't display the problem!)

None of the suggestions here worked-- reset, hard reset, network reset, etc. I have tried turning location services off and on, tried turning the Set Automatically time zone off and on.

In any event, here's what I stumbled upon that worked. Go to Settings, Location Services. Turn your Location Services on. (I usually have them off.) Scroll down all the way to the bottom to where it says System Services. Enter that and there's a setting called Setting Time Zone. I turned it on. Lo and behold! Back in the right time zone.

Well, to confess, I had to do this a second time (I had turned off the Set Automatically in the Setting, General, Date and Time pane).

In any event, I just turned off Location Services, and everything is fine. Right time, right time zone, right satellite predictions! As an extra wrinkle, I went back to that Location System Services setting and turned off the time zone setting--I don't travel much and not across time zones. No problem, the time and time zone are still right!

Keep looking up and Happy New Year!

I have had no issues with iOS 5 until about three days ago when my iMac and my iPad 2 started displaying the wrong time. I have the same exact problem as the OP, where but my time zone is set to New York. I am in California. As soon as I take off automatic time setting the time goes back to being correct. Why can't apple get time and new years stuff correct?

Same here as deftdrummer - I'm in minnesota not chicago. No matter what I do: short of a system restore (i'd rather not do it because all my business settings will be lost). I can't get my timezone to set to the correct timezone, but the time is correct. It is a pain to have to chose the right timezone when I make appointments on my phone when I'm away from my work and home computers. Apple please fix!

well i know how to fix this now. goto location services, go all the way to the bottom to system services, turn off setting time zone, go back to the time zone, ull notice it is now on the right one, if not goto manual and put it to the right one, then back to auto, then go back to location services and system services and turn it back on. problem solved

Here is how I fixed it for my iPhone after it the timezone became 'stuck' on Bridgetown, Barbados after a short vist there from the UK:

1) Settings>Location Services: make sure 'On'

2) Scroll to the bottom of the page and press 'System Services'

3) Make sure 'Setting Time Zone' is 'On'

This will ensure that the device uses Location Services to work out the timezone if it is not being supplied by the cellular network (or it is and is being ignored by the phone).

Thanks, Kevin Geiss, I had completely forgotten that default calendar time zone must be changed in settings/mail, contacts, calendars/time zone support.

I was changing the time zone in settings/general/date&time and this had no effect on the calendar appointment time zone, that just changed the local time on the iphone clock.

Options for time zone support sitting in two places is confusing.

Switch on Locaion Services in settings. If already on switch off then on again. Location services is used for all location stuff and the Time Zone is probably the most important one which is sort of hidden by the name Auto Set time suggesting that was the only settings.

Before I realised, I had the same issue as all of you on my devices.

Good luck
