iMessage Phone Number Error

I have the same problem. The number my phone is reporting or 'verifiying' in iMessage (and also facetime) is the one from the NZ sim card I used in my phone on holidays. Multiple sign outs reboots etc waiting signing back in doesnt put my real (current SIM) phone number back into iMessage. Any help appreciated. I might try reset network settings next

I've recently returned from a trip to Spain where I used a Spanish SIM card. After returning home and swapping back to my local SIM card...

In Settings->Messages->Receive... iMessage defaulted to using my AppleID iMessage account (an email address). The phone number option showed as greyed-out, as the old Spanish number, and showed as having an error.

Turning iMessage off and then on retriggered a login and fixed the error.

Not sure if this would help in your case.

AT&T Told me I would have to factory reset my phone to fix a similar error - where I was receiving other people's text messages and such after doing a phone relocation. Like everyone else, my number under >Settings >iMessage was greyed out. I turned iMessage off the first time, and back on but the old number still showed up. I then tried to add an e-mail address, and enter a phone number which freaked it out and brought me back to the screen. So I went back up to iMessage and turned it off, following your instructions. I left the Settings, iMessage screen and came back, and it was CHANGED!!!!
