Siri is insanely loud with Jabra Journey

I've seen a number of threads regarding Siri volume being too low with bluetooth devices - but none that say it's too loud.

Even if I try and adjust the volumn on my bluetooth hands free speaker - Siri still seems to kick in at maximum volume.

I just downloaded the software update for the Jabra Journey and it didn't help. Has anyone else had similar problems? - I've looked and can't find a way to control the volume of Siri on the phone anywhere either.

Thanks

Greg,

Sure glad I read this thread. I too purchased mine from Costco and was doing the exact same thing as you... Check the reviews before taking a pair of metal shears to the packaging which makes a pretty ugly mess if/when you have to return it.

I too will give them a day or two to post the new software.

PS - @Jabra, you folks might want to consider a packaging style that doesn't require the entire package to be destroyed just to gain access. It is embarrassing to return something that looks like a "Pit Bull" had it for dinner. (Present Pit Bulls excepted) 😉

The newest software has been uploaded to the web site - go to jabra.com/mobilesupport, select the Journey from the drop-down list, hit "Go" and download the Software Update. It's been tested to correct the volume issue when it comes to Siri.

As far as the packaging is concerned, Costco designed the packaging for the Journeys sold in their stores. Jabra's retail packaging, which will be available at other retailers and online next month, is a standard box.

JabraSupport,

Thanks - I am off to get the "Journey" out of the COSTCO packaging and load the new software.

Two somewhat off topic comments:

1. I really appreciate JabraSupport (the person and the company) monitoring this forum.

2. I also appreciate the quick response.

3. I was concerned after posting about the bullet-proof packaging that it might be a Costco design. It does look typical of a lot of their packaging styles. 😉

I will report back as soon as I fire the "Journey" up and try the new software.

Thanks again.

JabraSupport,

I installed the new software you posted and everything works volume wise... However when the Journey times out and turns off hitting the answer/end button doesn't turn it back on.

A hard bump to my sunvisor does bring it back out of sleep mode but that is a clunky way of handling this issue.

I don't know if it worked before the new software but it sure doesn't now.

PS - It is a little embarrassing having to give it a little whack on the side to get it to turn back on especially when you have a passenger saying "Cute way to turn it on".😠

JabraSupport,

Sorry for making this a second post but the WEB site won't let me edit my last post - Ugh!

You made a comment that the Journey shouldn't disconnect when the phone is in range. My unit does and the only way to turn it back on it to shake the Journey, the answer/end does not re-connect the two, not that it should auto disconnect in the first place.

I think on Monday I am going to return it to Costco. I purchased this unit to replace a BlueAnt S4 that was giving me battery problems but all these new irritations with the Journey are getting to be a bit much.

A big thanks to all for your updates/suggestions, especially JabraSupport.

However, I, too, successfully updated the firmware in my Jabra Journey tonight, and the volume with respect to SIRI is definitely working properly (thank goodness).

HOWEVER- the Jabra unit's volume (which beeps, announces the caller, says "Call ended," etc.) is still at full blast volume, with no ability to lower it. Just about shocks me out of my seat when it comes on!

Any further suggestions, JabraSupport, would be much appreciated, as the unit's going back if only SIRI's "voice" is much more pleasant, but the Jabra unit's "voice" is out of control.

I've had this issue with every single one of my bluetooth headsets I've paired with my iPhone 4s. Apple has always had issues with their bluetooth (just think back to the headset they desinged). I have the Motorola Elite Sliver and Siri is piercingly loud! It's rediculous that something as simple as volume can be such an issue for Apple to fix. I've had issues with the volume staying at maximum after I've invoked Siri before. I'd invoke Siri and then evey sound coming out of my phone, including key taps, nearly blows the phone's speakers. I'd have to go into the music application and play something for just a second to get the sound back to normal. But now, the only issue I'm having is getting Siri to not blow my ear drums when I have this very expenisve bluetooth in my ear.
