iphone 4S shuts down itself ?

hello, i was wondering if anyone experienced this issue before. my new iphone 4s happens to turn itself off and i cannot turn it back on by pressing the home button or the power button. even when i hold the power button, the apple logo doesnt show or the connect to power logo. the only way for me to get it back on is by holding the power and home button at the same time to do a hard restart. the first time it happened was when i put it down and went to eat dinner and came back to it and it would turn on. i tried pressing the power button, no luck. tried pressing the home button, no luck, held the power button and no luck, the only way to turn it on was to do a hard restart. the second time this happened is when i put my phone in my pocket, went into a car to go someone and took it out and it wouldnt turn on. i had to do another hard restart. any suggestions as to what i should i do ? and did anyone else experience this problem ?

My iPhone 3GS was resarting itself and coming up with panic.plist entries. I contacted Apple support and they got me to restore the iPhone to a back up point. The problem continued to occur though. I took my iPhone to an Apple store and they replaced my phone for me. I then restored my new phone to my previous phones backup point from my computer, and even though it is a new phone, it is still restarting itself and coming up with panic.plist. I have even completely restored my new phone (not to my back up point) but it is still happening.I am very confused as I have read that panic.plist is a hardware problem. Could the problem possibly have transferred from the back up point onto my new phone as a software problem but then transferred onto the hardware? Apparently it could also possibly be a problem with poor network coverage? As i have noticed it seems to be happening to me in more remote areas where I don't always get reception. Please help!

Panic.plist are a hardware issue, that's what I was told from the Apple Care agent I spoke to and also the Genius Guy who dealt with me in the Apple Store too, I've also seen the same mentioned when I was Googling about panic.plist when I was having them 🙂

I think you've been EXTREMELY unlucky with the replacement and got another faulty 4S. When I got my 4S replaced I initially restored the replacement 4S from a backup and I did not have panic.plist logs appearing again, even though it was the backup from the faulty 4S. I did eventually restore as new has I was having lower than expected battery life.

I would make a Genius Bar appointment at an Apple Store and have the 4S replaced again.

Just wanted to update you all (a brand new iPhone 4S randomly shuts down with panic.plist crash logs):

A friend of mine went to Switzerland (on a sky vacation).
After I verified with Apple UK (where my iPhone was purchased) that it'll be possible to replace my iPhone anywhere in Europe, I've asked my friend to try and replace it there (Switzerland ).

At apple store there, they've replace my iPhone with a new one.

That was ~2 weeks ago, and since then everything is working like a charm (I've restored from backup).

So, as everyone here say, it does seem to be an hardware issue - if you encounter such a problem and can replace your unit - you should probably do so

I had a iphone 4s and and set it up in the store. It was working fine then Iuse ittorun out ofbattery. I plugged it into the wall instead to charge it. But i turned the phone on that it needed to be plugged into iTunes. So I plugged it into iTunes and it said I had to restore. So I clicked the restore button. iTunes then said that I needed to update the iOS to 5.0.1. So I downloaded it. After downloading, it tried to restore the phone but then I got an unknown error (36) and it won't restore.

help me .:(

Thanks for that 🙂 but I have since discovered that it seems like the phone doesn't like the sim card or something, because when the sim card is in it restarts itself, but as soon as i take out the sim card it stops! i have had the sim card replaced incase there was something wrong with it but same thing! weird...think I'll have to give Apple another call...

I'm not sure if this will be helpful or not. My iPhone restarted itself yesterday and then shut down all together at night. I tried holding both buttons and nothing happened. I hooked it up to the computer and held both buttons and it came back on.

I realized one thing. My iPhone was brand new and absolutely fine yet the day I changed my home photo to a customized photo is when it restarted and shut off. I changed my homescreen photo back to the original default and I did not have one problem today. I had to get my iPhone 4s replaced recently because the wake button stopped working so the phone is very new. On my last iPhone I never used a customized home pic & I never had a problem with it shutting off.

This is just an assumption that I had & not sure if this was the problem... but I changed it back and it's been working great.

Go into settings/general/about/diagnostics & usage/diagnostic & usage data. I there are any entries that are panic.plist then your iPhone has a hardware fault and will need replaced.

If there are NO panic.plist entries there, then try to replicate what you done previously when your iPhone shut off (i.e. changed your home photo). If your iPhone then shuts down (make a note of the time that this happened), switch it back on and immediately check the error logs by going into settings/general/about/diagnostics & usage/diagnostic & usage data and see if there are any entries that are from the time you noted.

I found my iPhone was OK when I first got it, but after a couple of days or so that's when the panic.plist crashes started happening. The only way to have the panic.plist problem fixed is to have the iPhone replaced has its caused by a hardware fault.

My problem is the same... it's the panic.plist and my warranty is still valid so i went to my nearest apple service provider and ask for a replacement but they said beacause i bought my iphone overseas they must ask apple first whether they can give me a replacement or not......so can somebody help me whether i can get a replacement ?

I am having a similar issue.

JUST recently upgraded to an iPhone4S, from a blackberry. (Bought NEW Oct 20th)

My iPhone 4S has been randomly restarting, or shutting itself off completely. Some days it can happen multiple times even within an hour. Some days maybe only 2 or 3 times, but everyday for sure.

I made the long trip to the nearest apple store and the gentleman there helped me restore it, and said to test for a few days. ALAS soon after getting back it started to restart and shut off again. (FRUSTRATION)

I do not have an older phone with sprint to transfer to, and cannot afford an express replacement 😟, or wasting a half tank of gas just for a genius to ask me to try something new and come back if it persists.

My genius Erik (Awesome great guy) asked me to come back if the first trouble shoot did not work... I expressed how far i lived, then he showed me how to restore the DFU myself. Did that about an hour ago.... we'll see if it fixes my issues....

OTHERWISE, going to have to sacrifice another half tank and go back.....

All my friends have an iPhone, and I am the last to get one.... and only mine has issues.. I've had mine for about 2 weeks... and has been doing the restart thing since day 1. They have had theres for almost if not over a year, and theirs work just fine.
