Editing remote calendar using iCal or an alternative

I keep my work calendar on our companies mail & calendar server. It basically works like Google Calendar, so you can sync multiple devices with it. I have my iPhone's calendar sync'ed to it and it works perfectly.

However, on the iCal application in Mac OS X, all I can do is to subscribe to the caldenar (using its URL) and view the events. I can't modify the events on the remote calendar.

A little search on the web convinced me that this is a known limitation of the iCal application (correct me if I'm wrong please). Therefore, I tried another well-known application called Sunbird. With Sunbird, I can view and edit my calendar events, but the problem I have with it is that it's user interface is not the best. I really like iCal application because of its nice user interface.

Please share your experiences on how to sync with a remote calendar here. If you're using a differnet app, or if you know of a way to make iCal app capable of editing remote calendar events, please advise.
