Unplug it from the cpu.
Lift it upside down, tap the bottom to get rid of trapped dirt and sesame seeds/poppy seeds from that bagel you had.

Spray Windex onto a folded up paper towel, not too much, just enough to wet the towel. While still holding the keyboard upside down, wipe the keys with the paper towel to remove the built-up grime on the keys.

You don't. You throw it out and buy a new one. You could pull all the keys off if you wanted to but its a real pain and you risk screwing up the keyboard and you'd end up buying a new one anyway.

You can spray Windex on a rag and clean the top of the keys, but eventually hair and other stuff gets in between the keys to the point of beyond disgusting. That is when it's new keyboard time.

BTW you don't have to buy an Apple keyboard. There are plenty of $20 USB keyboards around.

To remove "debris", I knock (tap) the keyboeard around a bit while vaccuming along the keys with a bristle attachment. Then cleaning with solvent as others have mentioned.

Haven't tried it with the newer keyboard (clear case) yet, but the circuitry is simple enough I've ran keyboards thru the dishwasher in the past. Just make sure you let it dry thoroughly before using it. Returns it to new condition.

There's one product nobody's mentioned in this thread. It works great. It's called Dial soap. It comes in a little bar and you rub it on your hands under a running faucet, then use the resulting suds to thoroughly wash the grime, bacteria, jelly, banana, pizza sauce, chocolate, pretzel salt, boogers, and other detritus off your hands. Do this before you use your computer.
If you do it every time and don't eat or drink while you're working there, it'll go a long way toward eliminating the problem. 🙂, (but I mean it. And - nothing personal!)
