same here, sometimes I manage to keep iCal open but I see no logic in the why it does or doesn't, I use iCal for my business and this is really messing up my work.

Having same issue. Have tried all suggested fixes but still no change.

When launching, iCal shows as updating (also have a gmail account syncing) and then crashes. I try launching again and almost instant crash. Third time I get the option to restore or not restore windows, if I can click 'do not restore' quickly enough it stays launched.

I believe it does appear to be an issue with the gmail account sync. If I disable that account ical comes up without crashing. Maybe a bug in Lion with external calendar accounts?

Hey, Apple, you guys ever read these things?  This is clearly a bug. Hello out there in Cupertino!

I am having the same Ical crash problem.  It will NOT load at all.  No one seems to have an answer to this.  I created a new user and it will open fine in the new user.  But my original user (which has all my info) will not open Ical?????

    Update....

I just went 4-5 days without any iCal crashes at all, which is odd. It is now crashing again. Which leads me to believe it is a combination of 'something' that is causing this. Will try to do some more testing when time permits.

My Ical will not even load....forget about crashing....I can't even open the program anymore.

I have given up on Ical.  It will NOT work anymore on my computer.  I am using Google calendar which I actually like better.  Still this is a drag.  I do NOT like to give up on anything.  Why is APPLE not helping us with this problem?

Interestingly, I switched from Google Cal to MobileMe because I liked the integration.  Ever since I 'moved' to iCloud, things JUST DON'T WORK.  iCloud could be a great idea... but it really is turning out to be another bad idea.  Don't know if this is the reason for iCal crashing, but my problems seems to coincide with the transition to iCoud.  So.... time to switch back to Google...

I never even updated to Icloud.  This thing started happening on its own.

john maisey's solution works for this problem (iCal crashes). you just remove the dossier as he says and the next time you start iCal it will reconstitute the dossier in the right way. i notice that the sequence of the windows is not the same in the old dossier.

  • mjsjazz Level 1 Level 1 (0 points)

What does this mean?  How do remove the "dossier"????

    • quit out of iCal
    • Move your ~/Library/Saved Application State/com.apple.iCal.savedState folder to your desktop (in case you need to put it back).
    • relaunch iCal

Seems to have worked for me.  iCal regenerates the deleted (moved) folder when you relaunch.  If all is OK, you can delete the folder you moved to your desktop.

Note: In Lion, your ~/Library folder is hidden.  To go to the folder, open finder... select the Go dropdown, select Go To Folder... .  In the window, type ~/Library

    this didn't work for me

re-installed all my calendars was no solution either
