Should I be concerned with losing existing data (projects or events) when updating from FCPX to FCPX 10.1?)

I purchased a Macbook Pro loaded with FCPX from a private party. I now want to update from FCPX to FCPX 10.1 should I be concered about losing my exhisting projects and events? The previous version of FCPX is registered to another person and wondered if this could potentially overwrite anything. I backed everything up to another drive but, just wondered if anyone has done this sucessfully?

MacBook Pro, iOS 4.3.3

Updating FCP X should not have any effect on existing projects.

When you update, all that happens is that the new version of the app replaces the old.

The Projects and Events are not part of the app and are kept separately elsewhere.

When you have updated it, FCP X will ask you whether you want your old projects updating as it cannot play them until they are.

I've found that if one fails, the process stops there. You might want to go one by one to figure out which project is having issues.

That's it! I have one project that won't transfer over. I took it over to a computer with an older version of FC 10 and it shut the program down as it tried to open it up! This is not good. What has corrupted this project and is there any hope for repairing and re-opening it?

Did you try the backup?

In order to activate the backup file do I remove the orginal from the root folder and leave only the back-up file? Or is there another method???

Just replace the existing currentversion file.

I changed the name of the back-up file to "currentversion" and moved it out of the back-up folder and into the root of the Events folder. Success! Thanks for the help.
