Quartz Filter WARNING!

Does anyone know why the "quartz filters" in this thread just totally trashed a 10 MB pdf with color images so that the images are now a green color and almost unreadable?

I have been desperately trying to find a way to make my pdf's emailable (not to mention small enough so they don't take up 100 GB on my hard drive) but these filters (I'm running 150 dpi) seem to be TRASHING my pdf's.

Anyone know what is up with this?

Do mac users not use pdf's?

Is there a way to downsize my pdf's by buying external software??!!

Might try PDF Shrink on a few copies...

Hi BDAqua.

Thanks so much.

I don't know if this is too much on this thread but is it possible to read the first and the last two or three posts in this thread?

I seem to have trashed my pdf's which I guess you are indicating is due to the nature of the TIFF's that my scanner or someone else is generating and then including in their pdf's? I mean /downsizing/ these with a filter is trashing them?

ALSO, do you have any idea as to whether this utility in the thread will leave an ORIGINAL VERSION in the Trash? If it does, I can just recover all my pdf's by dragging them to the desktop. If it doesn't I think I have to manually go out and find them without the ability to search for any larger than 10 MB which is what I did when I started to downsample them with this thing and that is going to be no fun...

Jon, I've followed most of that thread. 😉

I don't believe it does move them to the trash, I find none here. 😟

The only chance of recovery would be to quit using that drive at all, boot from a different drive & see if any of these can find remnants of the files, but I don't hold a lot of hope...

Data Rescue...

(Has a Free Demo to see if it could or not, but you'll need another drive to recover to).

rccharles on file recovery...

"Stellar Phoenix Macintosh - Mac data recovery software, recovers data from damaged, deleted, or corrupted volumes and even from initialized disks."

They have a trial version, so I guess you can see if your data can be recovered...

FileSalvage is an extremely powerful Macintosh application for exploring and recovering deleted files from a drive or volume. FileSalvage is designed to restore files that have:

* been accidentally deleted.

* become unreadable due to media faults.

* been stored on a drive before it was re-initialized/formatted.

Hi. Thank you.

Here I thought I was /solving/ a year and a half old problem that is taking up 100 GB on my hard drive. lol.

I have my Time Capsule so I guess I am going to now go in reverse - I will print out all the files that read out from WhatSize as being larger than 100 MB - then I will go and find these on my Hard Drive and open them to see if they are trashed and I will highlight these, and then I will go out and find them one by one on my Time Capsule, bring them back and then cross them off the list...

< sigh >

BTW, I found this http://www.hoboes.com/Mimsy/hacks/quality-reduced-file-size/

Can I ask you if this appears as if it is simply a method to set up your own filters which you would basically use in place of the ones I have been using? I mean, there is obviously something with the other /filters/ that is corrupting some of my pdf's when I run it if they are green in Preview and green in Acrobat Reader...yes?

THANKS
