Hey folks, at the time I posted the iphonestuff4u link it was a legitimate site. Clearly it was helpful at the time based on the cofirmations that it helped to solve the problem. However, as would be the case, that seems to have changed in the subsequent two years. No need for the curt words or reporting me as a spammer; just don't click on the link now. I'd delete the post if I could. - Michael

Well, I'm having the same problem, and none of the solutions that I've researched have worked for me at all. The iTunes library is on a GoFlex portable drive, and it works on every Windows PC I've tried it on with no problem as long as I hold the shift key to select the library, which is on the drive. But when I try it on the Mavericks partitiion of my MBP (using bootcamp), I get that same message that the iTunes Library.itl file is locked or the folder lacks permissions, or something to that effect.

There HAS to be a way to make this work. I was up all night trying and re-tryng to make this work before I gave up and went to bed, but it is driving me crazy.

Using MBP mid-2012 with OS X Mavericks with bootcamp dual-boot.

Problem solved! After some trial and error, I took an extra 3TB portable drive that I had laying around and formatted that as a Mac OS drive and copied the iTunes library to it. Then I pressed alt while launching to select the library on the external drive, and voila! It worked perfectly, all the files and music were there and played with no problems whatsoever.

Unfortunately for me, however, I still need to shuttle between Mac OS and Windows, so I then formatted an external drive as exFAT, copied everything back to it, and now it works on both my Mac OS partition and the Windows bootcamp partition, so it's all good now!

I hope this helps some other people who might be experiencing the same issues.

Hey everyone, the site no longer works, which I mentioned last April.

For me, the 'Sharing and Permissions' section at the bottom of 'Get Info' was not containing 'Me' as a user. Actually this was the case for three files in my 'Music' folder.

1. iTunes Library

2. iTunes Library Extras.itdb

3. iTunes Library Genius.itdb

I added my username in this section, gave it 'Read & Write' rights and everything worked!

No idea why my username name was removed in the first place....
