Thanks.
The sequence of events went like this ... download, install, iPad restarted, saw the progress bar and the Apple logo, progress bar filled up with white, iPad appeared to restart again with Apple logo and progress bar - this stayed on the screen for a short period of time, iPad restarted and I was ready to go.
There was No indication that it was restoring anything that I could see when I updated but all data, documents, apps are in place as far as I can see. Everything maintained as it was!

Pefect, thanks for the details Demo. We'll see how mine goes.
Updated my iPad 2 via Wi-Fi. It followed the steps Demo outlined. All my docs and apps were maintained including the positions my apps had n the home screens.
FWIW, my 4S finished the OTA update, restarted and all is well. Nothing lost.. it's just like it was before the update, as expected. Version 5.0.1 (9A405)
Ditto
It's a really slick process. I hope it goes as well for everyone else that updates over the air!
Whether or not this helps the battery issues, it is good to know the ota update process works.
Yeah got to agree it was a very slick and easy process (over the air update). I thought that they may have been a few problems due to a lot of people downloading the update, but it did not take long at all. 🙂
Upgraded ota, but my iPad 1 is still stuck checking location for setting timezone...
I just updated my Ist Gen iPad through OTA and the process went smoothly and was done in and around the 5 to 7 miinute mark.
Just did a multiple device update...MBP SMC firmware update, iPhone 4 5.0.1, iPad 1 5.0.1...the MBP on ethernet and the iDevices on WiFi...all going simultaneously...much fun looking back and forth between three devices updating at once. All successful and EXACTLY as Apple said. And big surprise, GoodReader had an update noted in the App Store for the iPad that was to take advantage of the 5.0.1 features...released this afternoon.
These updates went flawlessly...continue to be impressed by the quality of the systems and software.
does this fix the chagre prolems from the computer
The charge problems from a computer are not iOS related most likely. The iPad wants 10W of power, most usb ports put out 5W. The iPad will charge, but much more slowly and it will say 'not charging'.
The best way to charge your iPad is with the wall charger.
I started the download, but stopped it when I saw the file size was 737MB. Can anyone else confirm the size of this file?
