Where are iPhone backups stored?

You'll find your backup(s) here: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup ... If you have more than one iDevice, just do a backup in iTunes and then check the timestamps on the folders to find the one most recently modified.

To access it, try to follow this guide about how to extract and recover iPhone backup.

Yes, SubjectGinger already knows the path as stated in the original post 18 months ago.

I do not have a ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync.

Then you are not using a Mac.

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync

In the Finder, go to menu Go > Go to Folder... and paste the line above then press Return.

Tried that, found the MobileSync file, but nothing in there is usable/viewable except pictures. How do I actually view the content, as in, how do I see a replica of my calendar, contacts, etc.? My iPhone is dead, need access to this info. Thanks!

You don't.

There are apps which will access the files and allow you to export it.

I couldnt find anything at first but you have to let it load for like 5 minutes then heaps comes up took 30GB off my 'other' files

What OSX version are you running? If Maverick (10.9) VERY EASY FIX!

1. Open Finder

2. Click your user name (user folder)

3. Select "view" in menu and click "show view options"

4. See that "Show Library Folder" is checked

I had the same problem. It was an easy fix. Open ITunes, in the upper left select ITunes, then Preferences, next select the Devices tab. You will see your backups in the Device backups window. Select the backup in question and then Delete Backup. Now, you can go back to ITunes and backup the IPhone.

Also, I find the iPhone backup extractor software can find the iTunes backups easily, it’s useful if I want to extract some data from my previous backup.

Very interesting discussion. I haven't tried the iTunes route, but by going to Library > App. Supp., etc., I find hundreds of separate files and not a complete backup pf my Contacts and/or my Calendar as a single file. Any way of doing that, I wonder?

Further to my post just above, I tried the iTunes Prefs. rout. Works perfectly for finding the backups, but then one can only delete them, which is the last thing I would generally want to do.

The software solution is much better, and the free version of iPhone Backup Extractor.app from Reincubate seems to be excellent.

Assuming you backed up your device, go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices, then select what update you are trying to locate, "right click" said update, then select "Show in Finder." It should bring you to exactly where your backups are located in your computer.

I have installed a little application called 'iPhone Backup Extractor' (the free version), and that does the trick.
