Both my battery life and reception has been affected negatively for me as well. The phone can now only go half a day without going dead - and it drops reception, even in the middle of a call...

I have an iPhone 4 and it's been great. Then, some time after upgrading to IOS5, all of a sudden, I couldn't make or receive a call (all others like WiFi/apps/music continued to work). I had to restore the phone to factory settings then it's OK again. Except now, there's a new problem: I would go to the subway and eventually lose cell signal. That's perfectly fine. Then I surface and the phone just says "searching..." and can't find the cell signal. I'd have to turn it off and on again to reset it somehow. It doesn't look like I'm the only one having this problem but how come the media (and more importantly Apple) is not picking up on this?? It's gotta be a software problem because it wasn't like this with IOS4!!

I'm getting same issues with iPhone 4.  In my work I don't get a great signal; before upgrade to iOS 5 once I was outside would always pick up signal. Now, after upgrade phone keeps "searching" until I switch off and back on...a right old pain in the a**e!  I was under impression that apple never got these problems...rethinking that now!

i'm from indonesia. Me too got the same network signal problem. After i upgraded to IOS 5.0.1 imediately my GSM signal got worsen. I  often get "searching and no service" , which i seldom got it on IOS 5.0. And my internet signal (E/3G) also often lost. Sometimes i get "invalid sim card" when the signal disapears long enough. I never got that problem when on IOS 5.0.

i'm thinking to downgrade my iphone 4s to 5.0 and enjoy the " not so bad battery life" rather than the " not improving battery life" AND " worse network signal" problem.... i regret to upgrade to IOS 5.0.1.

    Now can i downgrade??

    My upgrade was OTA.....

exactly the same issues here.. battery life is much worse than it was before upgrade (lost 40% in two hours of stand-by) no calls, no messagins.. well how could i make a call or text when i have no signal right?

i did reset i did restore, turned off data network.. nothing worked for me

this OS 5.0.1 is worse than Microsoft's service packs.. they might fix one thing and f*** up another 5.

how the **** is Apple testing their new releases?!

4s is not my first iPhone but it certainly is my last one.

    Same problem here!
Apple should give us an immediate fix!
We cannot use a phone with no service and unstable signal!

  • harun93 Level 1 Level 1

I'm experiencing the same problems... Battery life has significantly worsened (lost 51% just over night when i wasn't using my phone) Also the network loss issue has affected me very badly! If I have a signal, it will stay for less than a minute, then jump back to 'no service'. About 95% I do NOT have a signal at all.. before upgrading it was fine.. Also the battery drain was less than it is now. I didn't get a €700 phone just to be able to make calls/ text, etc only 5% of the time when I have a signal!! And when it says I have a signal it is full (without even going anywhere).

If apple doesn't fix this until tuesday pr wednesday, i want some sort of refund.. May it be a €100 itunes card or qwhatever... I mean they are damaging their own reputation by this!

  • harun93 Level 1 Level 1

Oh yea.. I have also tried restoring my iphone but as you mightve expected.. Nothing happened!

  • jimmy.obg Level 1 Level 1

yeah, i did restore using itunes. but i doesn't fix anything. my signal doesn't disapear but my internet signal (E/3G) keep disapearing sometime after i restart the phone, so i have to restart my phone periodically  the whole day, really pain in the *ss. While my internet signal disapears, i cannot make call, text or internet connection.

Funny thing is when my internet signal lost (E/3G), even if i take out the sim card, the GSM signal is still there..... it's like the iphone doesn't know if the sim card is taken out, what is this.. "a ghost signal".

so this is the mighty iphone quality when Steve jobs is not there.. very dissapointing. i'm sure google android is laughing right now 'coz they know iphone loyalist will buy their phone.

and they said the iphone 4s upgraded to 5.0.1 cannot be downgraded to 5.0 because IPSW cannot be downloaded anywhere. so now my expensive phone becomes the most expensive ipod touch 4th gen.... c'mon fix it apple.

  • harun93 Level 1 Level 1

Oh and i forgot to mention that when i have (full) signal, i cant even call or text anyone., i get a failure message..

  • rodinuk Level 1 Level 1

Upgraded my iphone 4 to IOS 5.1 today. Cannot make or receive calls as phone is permanently searching for signal. This despite several restarts.  Wifi is Ok. Anyone know how to go back to previous version of software?

I also upgraded my iphone 4s to 5.0.1. my battery problem is fixed but I cannot make any call...

The status switches between "no service", "searching" or even full signal, but my phone is`nt able to make any call.

When I reboot the phone it is working the first 5 minutes, but then the phone seems to be shutting down itself....

The good news I found the 5.0 ipsw file, so I should be able to downgrade to IOS 5.

The ipsw file is here:,1_5.0_9A334_Re store.ipsw

With shift + restore you can downgrade the phone to IOS 5.
