Q: iOS 5.0.1 problems - Searching for Network and battery life still isnt great.

So I dont know if anyone else is having this problem but I upgrade to iOS 5.1 today and it seems to me that my network is being dropped A LOT today.  I know it probably doesnt help that I'm on T-Mobile with a factory unlocked iPhone 4 but it seems that before I upgraded, I was able to keep my network for a longer amount of time.  Also, I think iOS 5.1 actually made the battery life worse.  Im down to 40% and thats without any calls, a few texts and very little wifi surfing.

Reply if your having the same problem lol

Same situation in Vietnam (4S purchased unlocked direct from Apple Australia) ... have tried two different SIM cards, have tried resetting network, etc.

It looks a lot like the battery life issue follows directly from the incredible problems this phone is having trying to stay connected. Have tried various suggestions above, but no joy.

Phone usually joins network after being switched on, but after a while it drops the cellular network connection and goes to "Searching.." and then usually to "No Service". 3GS and Nokia phones sitting on the desk beside the 4S seem to be having no trouble staying connected with excellent reception.

I'm about to remove the SIM so that the phone at least doesn't run down the battery trying to search for networks.

This is a pretty bad situation. I'm pretty technically savvy and pro-Apple and I can only imagine how some other people are feeling at this stage.

(Dear Apple folk ... I'm happy to help you find the problem if need be, because until this is fixed I can't use the phone!)

Oh ... and I forgot to add:

No incoming calls or outgoing calls or cellular data almost all the time.

    Oh ... and the occasional:

    "SIM failure"

    Not fun, Apple. Not fun.

is there any GSM provider that sells bundled iphone like verizon or sprint in your country? if there is one, i think you should try using their sim card.. i tried that and worked in my country. worth a try ...

Yes, but I am not going to change my phone provider (for a range of country-specific reasons) ... and I have a phone number which I've used for 10 years (and there's no number porting here)!

I will try to find a cheap prepaid SIM for one of those other networks tomorrow. At least I can test that.

Hi, my iphone 4sbattery is terrible when in use, about 1-2%per a min drop. but standby is good. what you have put dosentsound very good. i charged my 4s to 100% lastnight, took it off charge and 7 hours in standby it just changed to 99%so my standbyis amazing thats with everything on. but playing games or anything like that is terrible.my iphone 4 was amazing for that ;( also if your battery say like 73% for example and you think you shouldhave more than that left, do a hard reset and sometimes the percentage gos up, because it not accurate. another problem for apple to solve grrrr. another 15 updates and we might get there.... also people keep saying only got coupleof weeks to send it back.but thats only if you change your mind. you have 12month warranty on any new apple product!!!!

The same situation! Now I am in China. Bought 4S 11/11/11 in Hong Kong, factory unlock. After update 5.0.1 phone sees the signal, come time I can call it once, then he kept "looking for a network" and can not find ... and after I can not call, I can not receive calls. Did reboot many times, there is no way out.

Bought the iphone 4S is very expensive!

... no words...very sad that spoiled all the joy of having a new phone, which has long been waiting for!

I really agree with your last sentence ... this has completely spoiled the joy of my new phone ... which I have also waited a long time for.

    Update:

After I posted my last attempts I mentioned I couldn't check the phone every few minutes. Since Friday I have NOT lost signal. Curently I have 1 day on Standby and 4 hours 8 minutes of usage my battery life is 42%

I see battery life improvement and no lost signal. Something I may have done seems to have worke for me. Here's what I posted before:

    Iphone 4s 32 GB (black)

    Issues/Steps Taken:

    1) NO SERVICE

    2) Service No network

for the above checked with coworker running iOs5 side by side and they had service (not a network issue)

    3) Reset Network - worked for a few minutes then noticed NO SERVICE again

    4) Performed a Hard Reset (Home Button & Power On/Off) - worked for a while then NO SERVICE again

    5) Under Carrier switched from both Automatic from On to Off, received service then a short time later NO SERVICE. Switched it back on.

    6) Powered Phone On & Off several times

    - after my post I turned ON Automatic Time (sorry I forget the exact wording) and after an hour or so unchecked it

    - let battery drain to near 20% and recharged fully

I'm going to try and keep monitoring the forum (time permitting) and I hope something works for the rest of you

I resolve my problem by changing SIM card. Actually, update to 5.0.1 killed my SIM card. My problem solved, but what was the price...

Same issues here. Tried restoring my iPhone 4S Black (Factory Unlocked) several time. did 'ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS' from my iPhone as well but there is no network at all and even when there are signals I am not able to make any call or send a text message. Apple please help as I need my iPhone!!

Did you just go to your operator and asked for a new sim card? 64k or 128k? Which operator was this? I have Telenor.

Today I was in the our China Mobile office, ask to change my old SIM card to the new one. But no result. They are advised to wait for iOS firmware update 5.0.2

So when will this update? I've heard, it should be November 19 Is it true? Who knows?

Update:  My phone has now picked up phone signal after searching for hours.  What may have helped was switching carrier from Auto to manual and back again several times.
